Mazda 6 is a great car. They can be used to destroy other cars 2-3 times their value.

All the ricer kids where I live started buying the Mazda Speed versions with mom and dad's money about 5 years ago, prior to me joining the service and moving away, and then coming back. Now they're all driving Cobalt SS's and SRT 4's. One rice is just as good as another I guess. Quick cars the Mazda's are though buddy of mine's brother posted a 13.8 1/4 mile with a modded one. What it all boils down to is, are you willing to be seen tooling around in a buzzy little...*shudder* mazda.

with the exception being the Miata because I like those, cue all gay jokes.

Yeah I don't really care about the badge, I've always had a soft spot for Mazda's anyway. If the prices were closer I'd be cross shopping them with the Leggy GT, but the MS6 is a little cheaper and more car for the money. The Grand Touring is loaded, way more than I would've thought.

Leather, heated seats, heated mirrors, HIDs, sunroof, and true keyless entry (has that stupid credit card key thing), you could also add Nav on top but I don't care about that, either way I'd be sticking a tablet in that top storage/nav screen area.

The Sport model is basically a rental car with a huge turbo, it comes with a steering wheel, radio, pedals, and a seat.

Meh. This makes people's brain hurt but the only SUV I'd ever consider owning is a Grand Cherokee. That's the only one that does anything for me that wouldn't be a nightmare to own. I like Touregs and Range Rovers too but I'm (only slightly) smarter than that.

You are so weird. But I do like the Touaregs, especially the V10 -Diesel.

What about a G35 sedan?

Btw speaking of Rovers, you could probably get an 03-05 in your budget. Designed entirely by BMW, with a BMW M62 and E38/E39 drivetrain. Not that bad on repairs.

I didn't know that... hmm. The more you know. Does that mean an X5 is theoretically similar to a Rover?

The E53 X5 was designed using the IP BMW gained when they bought Land Rover. Or whatever deal they had. It didn't last forever and the E70 was much more BMW than Rover.

During the 2000-2005 period the E53 and Rover shared a TON of parts. Basically the E53 is an E39 in a Land Rover, with a different body.

Quite fascinating, really.

Not at all. They used some lessons but they went for a completely different market. The X5 doesn't even have a low range. It's not an offroad vehicle at all.

But the 03 Rovers, look under the hood and it's no different than looking at the bay of a 540, right down to the engine vanity cover. Switchgear inside the Rover and the IC are all E39.

I want to like the G35 more than I actually do. Its a great sounding motor and looks pretty good, but the 1st gen interiors kinda suck and the stereotypical driver of a 1st gen around here soaks themselves in cologne every morning and wears a shirt that's shininess is only exceeded by their hair.

I like that gen of Range Rover, but you're crazy to say it wouldn't be bad on repairs. An X5, or even Lauren's car for that matter, is not that cheap and easy to keep in perfect operating condition, and the Rover has a lot more electronic stuff for the different 4WD modes. Don't they have electronically adjustable suspension too?

The later model E53 X5s can have air suspension that is adjustable. The normal operation is in three modes: loading (low), normal, high clearance. The high and low modes have max speeds before the car automatically goes back to normal. I like to use low when I enter parking garages, and I've only seriously used high when I put the truck on ramps for an oil change.

interesting. Around here the g35 sedan is just a normal car, now the coupe- that's another story.

The electronics are a disaster on P38s, but while they're more complicated on the L322, they're actually not as unreliable. it's all just sensors and computers anyway, when you really get into it they're not awful, and even P38 air suspension wasn't all that bad as it's reputation suggested. It was the body electrics that sucked horribly. BMW did the body electrics in the L322 with their CAN BUS and decent modules so it's improved.

Yup, but that was a $200 accumulator usually that took an hour of DIY time, not too bad.

If I have decipher stuff like that, its not reliable enough for my DD. The 15-mpg-falling-off-a-cliff-thing is a deal breaker too.

The appeal of the MS6 (and apparently the 05 Subaru Leggy GTs have come down to a similar price) is that its a pretty simple "blue collar" car with pretty respectable performance and fun factor, but the cost of ownership of a plebeian Japanese sedan.

A premium anything, especially a Range Rover, has a considerably higher chance of needing a major repair over 2 years of ownership. Its a chance with any used car ever made ever, but a lot less likely on something from the land of the rising sun.
