Says the stuffy head gal. Still cannot fully shake this dang thing. Felt pretty good yesterday, no drugs, limited coughing but still felt weak. But today I woke up with another stuffy head and slightly feverish. And my appetite isn't back yet, which is telling me I am still sick. Anyone wanna come decorate my tree

Going to at least go drop the M3 off for its first official checkup, full fluid flush (say that 10x fast), steering wheel retrofit, and its winter wheels. Then it's back to the couch lest this thing comes back in force.....I cannot miss any more work.

Patrick....hope your wife is okay!

How did the str.ts hold up?!?! What springs were you running?

Pretty much, what was your set up and other details, please ?

It's almost time to buy new shocks! Bonus time is around the corner and I don't think it's a year subscription to the Jelly of the Month Club!

The STR.Ts (with OEM springs) were fine! The car really never was out of shape. I did two runs on my own then had one of the instructors drive my car, then I drove while he rode with me. He did a 53:21 on his drive, and said if he went all out he thought he could have gotten a sub 50. It gives me an idea of where I can go before I can start blaming it on the car.
My best was a 59:96. I'm on the brakes too soon and on the gas too late, but I know what I need to work on.
There were 4 SCCA formula 500 cars there today that were turning laps in the low 30s, unbelievable how quick those cars were.
And as much as I hate to say it, and they're still a gay car, the Miatas kicked a$$.

Loved it! I waited till now for what I thought would be cooler weather, but it was 88 degrees here today and 97 out on the track area. Don't want to think about when summer comes..

They grouped us 5 novices so my competition was a Porsche 944 Turbo S, a Mustang GT, a Mustang Shelby GT, and a 3rd gen Eclipse. I beat the guy in the Eclipse........

Woo, nice! Gotta start somewhere! In my view, the first couple auto-x experiences are best spent exploring the limits of your car so you know how it reacts, and shouldn't be spent worrying so much about lap times. During my first auto-x, I pushed my car to the limit, and then past the limit, so I could really get a sense of things in a safe environment. I ended up spinning twice, but hey, if you don't find out where the limits are, you'll A) never go fast enough, and/or B) won't know how to handle the situation when things get out of control.

Did you spend some time walking the course ahead of time?

Very nice, Patrick! I'm debating whether or not to buy a tree tonight... It's not so much a matter of if, but when.

Well, if you wait a little longer you'll have a little worse selection but deeper discounts. Depends on how much you value your tree. Need to post up some pics of ours....tis one of my favorites that we've had.

I got in one walk on my own and one with an instructor. On my last run I was actually trying to get the car loose, but with some pretty grippy asphalt and the auto tranny it just hung in there. If my count is correct there were only 4 spins out of all the runs today. If anything people hit a lot of exit cones because they were getting less steer from the rear than they expected.

Recommendations for newbie tools under $50 that I should add to my Christmas list? Already have the 200 piece tool kit from Harbor Freight....

Jack stands, low profile jack and breaker bar already on the list :-)

if ya don't have them, a set of swivel sockets, e bits, torx, and allen sockets as well.

i also think a torque wrench in inch pounds and ft lbs would be suggested.

and mechanix gloves.

extending magnet, bungee cords, and a really good drop light. cordless is nice, with a magnet to hold in areas where you need light but no place to hook.

and that's just off the top of my head....
