8-12? That's a lot for VA isn't it? We had a a record high of 78 today...BUT the temp is dropping 57 degrees tonight to 31! And I had this all over my car. Pollen. In January? I've never seen it so early.

So... My Passport X50 is toast. I was replacing the speaker inside it, and accidentally chipped off a few resistors. Went on a wild goosechase to find the specs for these three 1 sq mm resistors. Found the specs from someone on a forum, ordered them, had my buddy replace them, and still doesn't work. So that's $100 down the drain

I can use it as a $80 credit towards a new Escort, but it's still $330 for a new X50 or $5xx for a Redline. Don't really want to do that. However, I found a 2-year old V1 locally for $220. They are the cream of the crop, apparently. Not as many features as say, a Passport 9800ix (such as GPS), but better as far as range and detection. I think I'm gonna go with the V1.

ah man, no bueno.

I remember in my younger years I couldn't pick up a car magazine without there being one or two pages for the V1 and later the V2. They really were the pioneers of the industry.

Yeah my 8500 says "service required" occasionally on start up, luckily for me plugging it in like 3 times makes it go away normally. Not looking forward to buying a new one

BTW CJ does that credit go twords their refub units? those are alot cheaper and come with warrentys ect.

CJ, before buying, get the SN and confirm with Valentine that it is as new as the seller says. IIRC they haven't changed the outside in a LONG time.

Very true, updates have been internal only, and can be costly to get it up to spec (and you have to send it in = no radar detector till it comes back)

on a related note,

Ed, should I not bring my detector into Canadia for fear of getting in trouble for having one? or should i play the "dumb american" card?

Joe, if you do, keep it well hidden. They will confiscate it, and fine you ~$170. I'm not sure about Quebec, but the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) do patrol the highways specifically to find people with radar detectors.

Yet another reason I LOVE mine. Completely stealth.

Not sure if it goes towards a refurb unit.

Yeah, that's what I've read. They're basically the same on the outside for the last 20 years
