Replacing the panel is obviously the best thing to do, but so much money and not worth it IMO.

Thoughts???
Definitely depends on your long-term plans for the car. If you want to keep it forever, and if there is no rust hiding elsewhere on the car (a big if...), I'd certainly pay to replace the panel. $1200 sounds like a lot, but it's pretty easy to spend that amount on car repairs.

Anyway, if your car has any rust at all, I'd be willing to bet it has rust elsewhere that you don't know about yet. That would make me much less inclined to pay the big bucks to replace the tail panel.

I'm leaning on the grind and fill method. I'm thinking this car will be another year.
It does have some other rust issues, but most have been fixed by PO. Places like around the doors. Otherwise, it's pretty clean and cancer free for a New England car.

I have the space, but not the time.

Just got back from drinks with the ladyfriend. Her assignment was cut short and she is being shipped back to NoVa. Oh well. Gives me another reason to go visit the East Coast again..

Thanks Jen and DF.

We're taking about getting a dog in a year or so. Looking very seriously at Kuvasz, just gorgeous dogs, and pretty smart too.

Any errors in this post are purely Swype's fault, not mine.

Hey guise, how do I go about removing this guide bolt? 5mm allen wrench wont go in, 4mm slips right in

I'm not too worried about ruining the bolt guide, I'll just buy another..

Are we sure its even metric? I spent the longest time trying to find a good fitting socket for a bolt, only to realize it took a 3/4". Forgot all about SAE. Der.

I'm not sure ANY wrench will work.. hard to get a pic of, but the inside is basically smooth..

No idea, but like I said just above, its basically stripped smooth inside.

And I'm not sure why others were offering condolences, what did I miss?

Don't you have any local bike shops that will give you a warranty? The place I got my bike from did no questions asked warranty work for 2 years. They fixed a demolished rear gear set and un bent both of my wheels, all free.

Bikes are like cars. They depreciate as soon as you buy one new. Go on craigslist. You can find a solid road bike for $200-300. And when they break, they're cheap to fix.

edit: Here ya go. Perfect size, too.

Yep, same here. I have a house with a dog door, fenced in yard, and a landlord who would be totally cool with it. But I just don't like the idea of leaving a dog alone from 8:00am to 6:30pm and later every day. And then there is traveling...

Well, numerous major bike companies will provide a lifetime warranty for the bike frame itself (provided it is not abused), but the components (wheels, fork, gears, etc.) will have a limited warranty. What sort of warranty are you looking for?

My current bike is a Trek, and so was my previous bike. On the previous bike, I was cleaning it one day and had it flipped up-side down, and noticed a hairline crack on one of the chain-stay welds. Trek replaced the frame for free, and this is when it was already 5-6 years old. Lifetime warranty FTW... Due to the rapid evolution of frame design, I ended up with a much nicer frame.

Anyway, I'm by no means a Trek fanboi, but that's what I happen to ride, and it has been good to me. Honestly, on a bike which is in the $500 range, the components on the bike become the more important factor than the frame itself. Look for a bike which has the best components on it. Also, I don't know how much people use CL in your neck of the woods, but you can get a lot more bike for your money when you buy a used bike on CL rather than buying new from a shop.

Before I decided it made more sense to overhaul my current bike, I nearly bought THIS one. Aluminum frame, carbon fork, cables up high (not on down-tube), and disc-brakes. Pretty good setup for street duty. Honestly, I'm a big fan of cyclocross bikes for city commuting. They're built pretty sturdy while still being light. Pretty crazy to think that I spent over three times that amount the last time I bought a bike...

perhaps a torx socket can be tapped into place then, if no allen fits. i've gotten bites with them before, so it might just work.....

and chad had an in-law pass recently....

Dang. I woke up in the middle of the night by accident, started thinking about all the things my client needs done, now I can't go back to sleep. Hopefully I can use the three hours before anyone comes in to start getting caught up. I hate starting our project in the middle of the client's project. There are things we are doing now that should have been done a year ago. Le sigh.

I am a Director in our Oracle financials software practice (working for one of the big four global consulting firms (KPMG, PwC, Accenture, Deliotte).

In summary, big businesses use Oracle software to create and approve purchasing requisitions, issue purchase orders, manage inventory, create and manage sales orders, issues and collect on sales orders, and create their financial statements. So we either a) help clients plan for and to install the software (including defining their business processes, what will be done manually or within the system) b) help those clients who already have the software use more of the system functionality to drive process efficiency or get a greater return on their IT investment.

So, my client started the upgrade process about a year ago, but hasn't gotten very far..and each track (purchasing, order management, etc) is 'doing their own thing'. So, they brought us in to help 'stand up' the implementation and get it delivered. I have a team of about 10 of our own consultants working for me (along with about 30 systems analysts and business leads from the client side), not including systems developers. We will do (or help the client do) everything from project management, change management and training, executive/stakeholder management, business process design, system architecture, writing all the design documents, setting up and testing the system, defining data strategy and doing the data conversion, and ultimately, building the final system, getting them live on the new system, and finally, transitioning all support services to the client's existing application support team.

All told, we anticipate the client will need another 14 to 18 months to go live and to finish transition. And like I said, it's actually harder than a new ('greenfield') implementation because of 3 reasons. a) They have already started and each track is at a different point in the implementation lifecycle; b) each track has their own design approach and quality standard and c) they already have more than a half dozen countries on the upgraded system, and we are trying to drive some consistency across the global business units, which has not been a priority to date.

So, it's a very, very complex project (sorta like jumping onto 9 different out of control trains driving to their own destination, trying to bring each train back under control, onto the same set of railroad tracks, and finally, all connected together and arriving in the station on time). I like it because it's complex, but then again, it keeps me up at night right now, at least until we can get the lasso around all the train cars and get them headed in the same direction.

And with that, the conductor has to get to work. :-)

James, any more word on the contract? And what the heck are you doing up so late ;-)
