And I was in the woods on 400 acres of land privately owned. There was a whole pig roasting that day for 24 hours. BBQ, trap, and once it got dark bourbon. It was like a redneck fantasy.
This sounds awesome! I think I'm a closet redneck.

So it looks like my trek east will begin the first week of August for a Bachelor party. My plan is to then rent a bike and ride out to see my folks with some friends from DC, then, if I have time (very likely) and money (unlikely) I'll ride/drive down through the Carolinas. Got a friend in Winston-Salem I want to visit, too.

I will let you know when plans are firm.

It stays in the closet until I attend a pride event (read Sprint car race). Then the Shane hmiel Hoosier hundred race tshirt comes out. That's the only shirt in my wardrobe that gets 'warshed'.

Many years ago you couldn't buy tomatoes at the grocery store, you had to buy them locally grown. The reason was they had a short shelf life, and they didn't handle the roughness of shipping. Then someone came up with the brilliant idea that you can ship green (pre-ripened) tomatoes without any damage and they had a long shelf life, the only problem was they were hard and of course GREEN. The solution to that was to expose green tomatoes to phosgene gas which turns the color of green tomatoes to an orange/red color and ......voila! That's what you get most places you buy tomatoes, hard, tasteless artificially reddened junk.

Teaser from last night. Did a "legacy" shoot for the BMWCCA Golden Gate Chapter. Shot all years of M3s in context of San Francisco for the centerfold of their magazine. Too stoked!

DC: Not in California. We get awesome tomatoes at safeway, even. Better ones at farmer's markets and whole foods, etc.

At the last company I worked for we made munition fuzes and we had a firing range so we do do development and acceptance testing.
When I was doing a forms reduction black belt project we discovered we had a permission form that when signed by the General Manager allowed employees to use the firing range so long as the alcohol consumption wasn't excessive. Needless to say that was one of the first forms obsoleted, but we found there were about 10 employees that had permission to use the range under those conditions.

We get good tomatoes here too because Plant City FL is one of the largest growing areas in the country, but if you live any distance from a tomato growing area the phosgened stuff is what you get.......

Damn that's wild DC. Company permission to drink and explode? wild.

Jared, IMO our tomatoes still don't compare to fresh off the farm stuff.

James, looks great. I've got my reservation made already for the April 2014 issue!

Aaaaand, the test mainframe isn't coming online. Heh. Sucks to be IT right now.

I try to grow my own tomatoes, but they don't do very well in my garden. I see other folks which have much better tomatoes growing, but they have raised beds. We've mixed in plenty of compost and planting soil into our garden patch, but I think the soil is still too rocky.

The only thing I miss about working there is getting to regularly shoot 40mm grenade rounds and blow things up.

Testing bomb fuzes was the most fun. 1/3 lb of RDX type explosive in those babies. About the same amount of explosive as in 1.5lbs of C4.

Definitely. It's one of 43 frames for one photo. Didn't get every shot I needed, Local PD shut us down before I could finish. Either way, it's gonna be a damn good photo considering it was thought up, approved, planned, and shot in less than 30 hours. Not to mentioned delivered within 4 days.

Why? Was it on public land or private? What right do they have to tell you that you couldn't take pictures there?

Yeah, we were in a public place. We're lucky we didn't get asked for permits and such (which would have led to us getting tickets/citations.) Cops up here are so much nicer than down in Los Angeles.

While I have no doubt that the M6 & M5 are excellent cars for what they are, I find it hard to get super excited about them for some reason. Maybe because they're too big. I guess super large luxo-missles just aren't my cup of tea. I see a student here at UW driving around in a brand new Estoril Blue M5 quite often. It's pretty funny to watch him rip around in it, and then when he pulls up to a red light, the engine shuts off and it's silent.

I like the new M5, but the M6 Gran Coupe rocks my socks. I'm not sure exactly why, but I think its the best looking big-bimmer since the E38. That and the forthcoming 2-series are the only BMWs I've gotten excited about since the E46.

When the 1-Series was first released, I didn't like it very much. But over time, it has slowly grown on me and now I actually like it. It certainly isn't as pretty as it could be, but I think it's pretty sharp. As for the new 2-Series, while I'm excited for the next baby BMW coupe to be out, I'm not too keen on the looks of it so far. I'll wait until I see it in person before I make any judgements.

The official E36 OT Thread!!

Hope this doesn't DP

SC
That's great shooting.

DC
Lol now that we have better information we make better decisions and rules about drinking.

I was proofing a draft of a much longer post with two story's about shooting/drinking and flying/drinking when my battery died.
If it posts I'll delete it or finish it.

1. Story from P 51 pilots (and lots of other stuff) at reunion I served as wait staff/guest.

2. Story of shooting and drinking and eating at Villereals (?) Ice House Helotes Texas.

With initials like yours I'm not surprised I agree with most of your posts most of the time.

I'll check in a while to see if the system saved the draft by posting it.

Not that I don't want to see my Dad and say hi to Don and to buy the front end of my wagon...But I am not looking forward to 10 days of Florida heat.

That is all.

well, i want to go on record as saying joisey has the best 'maters around. i've had them from all over, and homegrowns are better than store purchased.i tried a few raised beds last year but was not able to keep them tended the way they needed to be. i did manage to get a few jalepenos, though. and garlic.

my brother takes care of my lawn, as tiny as it is. i have no shed for a lawnmower, and city ordinances do not allow me to own a shed anyway....

not that i have a lot of time to take care of my weeds anyway....

i'm too busy with chasing ants feeding on oatmeal crumbs....

my dad popped up for a visit, so it was nice to go out to dinner with them. will spend some more time with them before they go back home on monday.

sorry you won't be making bimmerfest this year, jesse...

how's your dad feeling, btw??

jen, have fun in fl.

and cali won't let you do a photoshoot without permits?? is this jut because you're a business, or is it the location of the bridge??

regardless, sounds silly to me....

don, love the fact that you got to play with big boy firecracker stuffs....jelly for sure. was any of this @ white sands by any chance?? if you ever worked with any government photographers, chances are you weer working with my dad. he did that for decades for documentation and such, all over the place @ wsmb, as well as places like aberdeen.

gosh...multipost quote brain freeze....forgot what i was gonna say now....need sleep for sure..

talk to you guys soon....
