I tried to use the other remote key so it would charge. BIG MISTAKE! It's too much of a disturbance for me to bother.

Great thread!

Can't think of anything that hasn't already been said except cleaning sunroof drain lines should be an annual maintenance item, you don't want to learn why the hard way.

Are the sun roof drains only in the wagon, if not, can you instruct how-to?

I've heard it can effect the sedan too, though is rarer, there's a diy fix here in this thread, I'd say it's probably best left to bmw though. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=259095

How do you play DVDs when parked? I have a 07 525i (purchased in 10/06) with NAV and premium and I inserted a DVD to try in the DVD bay with no luck.

I believe the dvd drive is for navigation discs only. You can't play dvd video.

Are you sure? My 2006 Z4 does not ... or does it need to be programmed?

I have read in this thread or some others on this site on multiple instances. I had a similar impression as yours earlier.

I believe you can only do it with the CIC (2010 and above) display.

why is that? Does it depend on which year disc you have for nav? if that even makes sense...

I was actually responding to the DVD video question. I believe you can only play DVD video/movies on 2010 CIC displays, with dealer intervention.

I just discovered that if I push on the cruise control stalk BEYOND the resistance point,it increases the set speed in 5mph increments from the previously set speed.

AND if you go the other way it decreases speed!! Plus when you go down hill it applies the brakes to maintain set speed!!

I think that only applies to certain model/year.

That sounds like active cruise control. I do know that the AT will downshift to reduce speed when going downhill.

Speaking of cruise control, I was disappointed to learn with my 2007 530i that the set speed no longer ties to the actual speed of the car, but rather to the indicated speed as shown by the speedometer.

With my 2001 530i, it was the other way. The cruise control setting was the true, accurate speed of the car. Thus, one could easily determine the miscalibration of the speedometer with the E39.

How did the car determine the "actual" speed? GPS data? Offset from speedometer? Magic?

As it was explained to me, the speedometer has a built in margin of error to prevent underreads. The cruise control had no such requirement. Data for both is pulled from the rear axle, which is also used for the odometer, and is deemed to be accurate.

Based on my Garmin GPS, I found the cruise control readings to be accurate to within 1 mph.

My lowly 2008/528xi applies the brakes downhill in cruise control.
Also forward increases speed while back decreases speed. It must be a LCI thing?

I understand about the increase/decrease by pulling or pushing the stalk. My point was that if you pull or push the stalk PAST the resistance point,it changes in 5mph increments using the last set point as a baseline. This is very interesting and seems to be a hidden feature. How do you know that the brakes are being applied? Maybe mine are as well.

While in cruise and with no one behind you, pull it harder and see how fast you decelerate(braking). And in my owners manual, it states that the cruise control will apply brakes if engine braking is not sufficient to maintain speed.
