May have already been mentioned, but with comfort access I lock the car by brushing the rear handle with my thigh when both hands are full.

That's illegal in Alabama.

1) We were on a road trip, cold outside, radio volume off. On the dash console it started streaming across about a blizzard warning beginning at 7 pm for the following counties ... Cool.
2) lil Darlin loves the car.

Great way to reduce drag at speeds over 25 MPH: Before entering car, manually unfold both outside mirrors. Start car and drive off; once you reach around 25 MPH both mirrors will now automatically fold in. Must be part of the dynamic efficiency package.

My wife detected this fluke and now is staying away from driving this car even more than before. Too much tech for her needs. When this happened she pulled over right away and finally found the little round botton that moved the mirrors out again.

It appears that the spare tire space is deep enough to hold a real spare. Under the space saver is a block of styrofoam. Anyone removed this and gone to a full size spare?

Did you look to see what you have under the foam?

Nothing, it's bare metal.
I have removed it a few times to vacuum it.

If you notice the foam, it has many crazy shapes in it. These shapes were designed to hold various computers/electronics. A clever idea/location - NOT.
When the trunk would leak it would flood the electronics costing big $$$$ so they moved the electronics on (hopefully) most of the cars and still used the same foam.
SO if you have nothing there (that is good) the foam is generally just padding/spacer at that point.
As you noted I think that a full tire spare could easily fit there.
Also you could easily put the (flat) tire in there, and put the foam above the hatch - keeping the trunk a little cleaner.

If you have an E61, Comfort Access on the door handles won't work until the trunk has completed it's closing procedures. Not cool when it's raining hard...

Trunk Trick--

I have had my car for a few years. The other night my 12 year old daughter asked me to drive a friend home. As I pulled up the girls ran out and my daughter's friend ran to the trunk to throw her bag in. Before I could push the trunk button she had it opened...did not know that you can open the trunk as long as the keys are in the car...my daughter's friend was raised in Germany and has ridden in Beemers her whole life and didnt think a thing of it! Funny!

Motion Detector. My wife asked to lock her in at the Target in our neighborhood while I went in to by some milk. When I came out 5 minutes later, the alarm was whistling and the lights flashing.

I asked if she tried to open the door and she said, "no I was just sitting here".

Goes to show that if a window is down or sunroof is open when the car is locked, someone reaching inside will trigger the alarm. I took a look in the car manual and confirmed it.

Click lock on the remote twice and the interior alarm is off. You can leave spouse or pets in the vehicle and lock the doors

Well my car doesn't tell me when the hood (bonnet) is open
Drained the battery the other day, so i pulled the hood lever then remembered i can just roll start it. I forgot i had pulled the lever and continued on to work. Nothing, no mention in idrive that it was open. Funny, because there is a little push button switch under the hood by the right side cabin filter that (i thought) would trigger something stating the hood wasnt closed. All the stuff idrive tells you, even if you have a fog light out, but it doesnt tell you if your hood is up

Guys, this is NOT safe... don't do it!

If you lock the car with the remote you cannot get out from the inside (ie. double-pull on the door handle won't work and central locking button won't work as the "anti-theft" system disables their functionality). If someone is going to stay in the car, they should lock it using the lock button on the dash only - as then they can get out in an emergency.

If you forget to put the car in park and open the door, when you take you foot off the brake it will roll about 1 foot and put itself in park for you.

The car putting itself in park only works for LCI, with the electronic gearbox, I believe. Locking someone inside the car I believe you can get out by pushing the central locking button first and then pulling the door handle. I just learned today that if you have the light switch one click to the right from off, and try to lock the car it wont beep.
