Yup, the passenger bolsters also "hug" your passenger when you start the car (or close the door). Of course this only happens if the seat has been adjusted to "bring in" the bolsters from factory default settings (wide open) - they only move out to allow easier exit from the vehicle, and back in to their set position when the car is on and the door closed.

Opening the trunk with the key fob requires that all of the doors are unlocked first. Then the button to open the trunk works. If you hold it too long then the alarm goes off!!

+1! I found that out the hard way too. And I still can't figure out how to shut the alarm off quickly.

Wierd, this never happened with my 2007 car or my 2010 car.
I can open the trunk with the remote without unlocking all the doors first.

Just press the door open button on the remote.

Yes, it sounds simple, yet when I did that it seemed like it took forever to shut off while I was standing there looking like a putz with my car whailing away. I'm not anxious to try it again.

But I have to say again how cool this thread is, I just discovered I have the premium package . . . I never noticed those orange lights in the doors before (one of the hazards of buying pre-owned and being too lazy to get a spec sheet from the dealer). So, thanks OP for starting this thread

BTW, I did not know that the door chime has a dedicated speaker and it is right at the bottom of the footwell area. Stick your head down in there by the pedals, look up and there it is - about a 3" speaker. No wonder the sound is so rich!

The passenger seat will not "move" or bolsters will not adjust to memory positions unless someone is actually sitting in the seat. This could be why you have not noticed any movement from the passenger seat.
Sit in the seat yourself and open/close the door as well as power up/down the
car..

Pretty cool

+1

Just hold the trunk open button on fob for about a second and leave it. The trunk will pop open. Much better than CA approach.

The button to lock and unlock the doors when you are driving the car is on the dashboard in the center below the hazard flashers button.

This is not the case on mine. I can open the trunk with the fob, whether the car is unlocked or not. When I close the trunk, surprisingly the thud doesn't trigger the alarm, that is still armed.

I left my CA key in the trunk and when I went to shut it the trunk wouldn't lock so I looked in my Golf bag and saw that I left the key in the bag,I thought that was real cool.

Found another one. My transmission is shifting pretty good but I have driven other similar cars and they shifted more agressively in D mode and seemed like they had more power. I found this link and did this procedure to reset the transmission shifting program to factory specifications or default mode and it worked! The car pepped up and shifts more aggressively and downshifts easier and takes off and seems like it has more power. I guess the adaptive part of the transmission learns that I drive kind of pokey a lot of the time and got itself programmed for pokey shifts. Try it!

The satisfaction of a well-tuned sport seat!

When I first got the car I didn't spend enough time trying to get the sport seats dialed in. Everything I tried while driving seemed to make me less comfortable, and so I backed off and settled for a very generic setup.

After almost a year, I took some extra time in the driveway to try and get a snug, molded fit and, wow! It really changes the experience, whether you're pulling G's, on a long distance drive, or just commuting.

The L7 audio package has an amp in the left rear of the car. When hot, a fan will run to cool it off, creating a whirring sound which, until today upon reading another thread on this board, was a complete mystery to me!

I discovered that even though I ordered the premium package, the factory didn't install the auto-opening tailgate...

... Yeah, I did get satisfaction. And a pretty unique car- probably the only premium package E61 in the US without an auto tailgate...

The //M5 costs about $6,000,000 more per year to maintain than my old 325i.

Thumbs down

Although BMWNA says we have the latest manual,(2010). IMO we don't. Nothing match's up with how you have to make your setting in the Climate control or Nav.,
cheers

I like the fact that when you press the start button, the radio doesnt pause when transitioning from the auxiliary phase like most other cars do.

Well... not entirely true. If your battery is partially drained, the radio will cut out while the starter is cranking. This was the first indication I had of a battery drain condition - brought on by the car sitting undriven for several weeks in the dead of winter, and having not driven it frequently in the weeks preceeding. After getting a battery tender and keeping the battery fully charged during periods of low use, the radio cut-out issue disappeared. To your point - I too like the fact that the radio operates as soon as the key is inserted into the ignition.

The best piece of advice I've seen and acted on so far since I picked up my car last month. My car no longer has any lag -- drives in a much more aggressive manner as you stated--well put! Glad I tried it. Seriously....like a different car. Thanks BimmerBobster!!
