on the 2007 530i, is there a way to get your steering wheel to move up and out of the way when the car is turned off? I test drove a 525 which I thought was a 2007 and it did it.

I dont think anyone has mention this but if they did i will say it again cuz i think its cool, the rest feature keeps people warm in the car when they wait for you without a key, and you dont need a key for them to turn the radio on when they wait in the car just hit the volume button and the radio will work

I used to wait for slow pokes to close the last door or even the trunk before setting alarm from remote. Not necessary. Close your door and set it...last door or trunk closure arms alarm and chirps to verify. Sweet!

I have a 2007 530i, and it does this automatically. Only time it hasn't, is when the steering wheel is already at the highest point... if yours doesn't, something is wrong.

2008 535i - that I have to relearn jacking a car.

That my wife's Acura TL is nothing to sneeze at; but, I won't let her drive mine for obvious reasons...

owners manuals on line

For those of you who have voice command, the manual has all the commands for you to learn (yes they are in English). Additionally they have videos of the more useful features that some have trouble with. I am that the cruise control video is really a duplicate of the rain sensor.

BTW, BMW has all the owners manuals on line. I down load the pages I need and print them for reference. Such as the commands, the nav info and towing instructions.
You could even read it at work!!

Push in the HVAC control buttons and you can get the settings immediately without going thru the idrive.

After playing with it some it does it. I'm just tall so I already had it at the highest it will go. No worries!

Anyone notice that the mats in the driver and passenger side of the car are held down by velcro to prevent sliding?? Just noticed that the other day when I dropped something.

I discovered that I do not know what switch position and what condition the inboard halogen headlights would come on. I asked the SA and she told me it NEVER comes on. My son just backed out of the garage for a test drive, daytime, slightly cloudy and both the outer Xenon and inner halogen lights were on. When I was giving him a quick controls overview I had the light switch in AUTO (led lit).

Does anyone know?

If you are in reverse and open the door to have a better look , the trans slams into park. I have kind or a tight driveway, and was in the habit of opening the door to have a better view of the concrete wall as I backed up. The 5er is smarter than I am!

That could be annoying. I have tight parking quarters as well. I don't like the mirrors to point down in reverse because they point too low and makes it harder to gauge so I leave them in normal driving position when backing up. Can the degree of down-turn be adjusted on the mirrors for driving in reverse?

The best way to test it out would just be to sit in the garage with it on and look at each of the 4 configs. If I remember right, I'm not sure there is a setting where just the inners are on.

try it out!

Another thing I just discovered.
If you place a finger on a radio preset button, but don't push it, the station ID lights up in the idrive display.

I will answer.
I had the same question and I asked everyone in the agency how to activate these lights. They had no clue including the service manager. In researching what I could about the car between the manual and experimentation I discovered it!!!
They are AUTOMATIC. They are your turning lights and go on automatically when you turn at sharp angles - like getting out of your garage. this is good to remember when you get the car inspected since you could fail if it is not known how to activate.
On a dark and dreary night when the car is in front of a window, or garage door etc. turn the wheel and they will go on. BTW they do not go on with high beams since you are already covered.

Best answer so far... thanks.

That explains why the better half was commenting that I need the lights checked bec one of the inner lights was out as I was pulling out on a quick turn. As I said I just saw all 4 lights on today so I am not too worried. It is just so exasperating that the owner's manual does not completely cover the modes in depth and the so-called dealership "experts' have no clue. I shall keep digging and I will post once I get a better grasp of this "mystery".

The hi pressure headlight washers activate with the windshield washers/headlights ON.
If the headlights are off - no headlight wash.

The trunk will not operate if you are in gear.
BTW why are there 2 trunk open buttons??
One is near the ashtray, and another is above the hood latch.

Took me awhile to figure this one out as I was always setting off the alarm in public places. The FOB's trunk button activates the trunk opener when depresed 2 seconds. If you continue to hold the button down, the panic alarm goes off. BMW should have shown both trunk and panic symbols on the FOB. Oh well.

Also discovered you cannot open the gas lid to do a refill if your car is locked.
