Bimmerfest 2010 Put it on your calendar!

I'll be going in 2010.

I'm an old timer. My first Bimmerfest was at Cutter Motors. At that time, I bet Jon Shafer knew most of us by name.

Things have changed a lot since then, but the cars remain the same -- which is why I go.

Like everything else, time has changed, nothing is free forever. I remembered the first few bimmerfests that took place at Cutter Motors and then at the Fairground. They fed us lunch at cutter's for free. Plenty of soft drinks to go around. Here are a few pics from the good old days at Cutter and Earl Warren Fairground.

Cross country from Mass? I think so.

At this point (unless something happens like I have no money since I'll need a few thousand to pull of this adventure) I'm planning on trekking down there a mere 3514 miles one way in a 29 year old car across some of the worst roads in North America. I may need a kidney transplant after the frost heaves of Canada. I need a sponsor lol....

I figure almost anywhere has to be warmer than Alaska in Late April.

Do you have someone who could share the driving and the expense?

I'm seriously considering going; hopefully I'll have my car ready for such a journey by then!

not so far.. It's a major vacation to drive 7000 miles. I have family in San Fransisco I plan to visit while I'm down there. I drove 4100 miles to move here in 2000 so 3500 miles shouldn't be too bad, although I didn't drive in a 29 year old car with a stiff suspention the first round.

How many days drive is it from seattle to the fest? I can look at miles all day and it doesn't help figure out real driving time. Most of my trip will be in Canada. it'll take almost a full day just to get to the border from here....then 3 days at least in Canada, more if the roads are bad and I have to drive slower.

It depends on how motivated I am to get there quickly. I once drove down to Escondido in a day (took about 20 hours driving straight thru). If I spread it over a few days and turn it into a sort of vacation, it may not be so bad.

Still thinking....any idea how many Festers go? It might be nice to put some faces together with some online personalities.

i went last year...I think there were quite a few others there but I didnt see them.

That definitely is a major drive (7K). Two years ago when I drove back from Bfest, straight up I-5 from Santa Barbara, it took me 17 hours. Made a couple of stops here and there.

Half of the fun is the drive down especially if you roll down caravan-style.

Are you planning to go in 2010?

The challenge is timing the drive to meet up with a caravan. I can almost be certain that I won't be able to pull a 17 hour day after having already gone a few thousand miles......

I'm stopping in San Fransisco to visit my grandpa but I'm not sure which direction I'll make the main visit. So I may be meeting up with a San fransico caravan.
