Can anyone give me an idea how long it takes for the car to get past the "Schedule for Production" part of the online tracker? I'm very impatient waiting for my black beauty to arrive

Never mind, I called the number, it's been released to a carrier to be brought to the port of exit. I have no way of describing in words how excited I am now!

One of best and most thorough posts that I can remember
Thank you so much. The information is incredibly detailed and easy to follow. I particularly love the webcam shots of the Vessel in transit.
As for your garage; it is without compare. Phenomenal! Thank you again. This post has been bookmarked. Awesome! |

This is a great writ-up! I found it when I ordered mine on Sept 1 and the information you provided has made the wait a bit easier. The one difference was the shipping line used for my car. Mine just got into Port of Charleston aboard the K-Line's Sierra Nevada Highway. When I could not find anything from W & W I asked my dealer who gave me the shipping info and expected date to port. It arrived right on schedule. I should be picking it up on 10/31!

Wow! This is fun to read. When I ordered my 328i in Feb 07, they said I would get the car 2 months later. I was just waiting for them to call. I didn't know I could track my car. This is very useful for me when I order my new car in 2-3 months.
@E46M3E92335i Your garage is awesome! |

For you experienced BMW buyers:
I just tracked my car on the BMWNA site and it shows "at vehicle preparation center". What does that mean for me? How much longer before my car is in Northeast Ohio? The wait is absolutely killing me! |

This article has a nice overview of what happens at VPC. You car should now be at VPC in New Jersey. Usually takes a couple days there, then they load it on a truck to your dealer. Once at VPC your dealer should be able to give you an ETA for delivery. |

Thanks, but it's turns out I don't need it. My dealer just called and said they just unloaded the car off the truck.

My car has been "at the port awaiting a shipping vessel" since 12/21/2010. Any idea why it would be sitting at the port for over 2 weeks or do you think they're just not updating the status till it hits the US? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm not in a rush to get it as I'm hoping to pick it up by the end of February, I'm just curious as to the process.

Hello all!
I placed an order with a dealer on the east coast last Monday for a 328 xi wagon. To date, the dealer is "still waiting for BMW NA to accept the order" and assign a production number. Anyone have any experience with this process and can shed any light as to why this seems to be off to a very slow start. |

Someone mentioned in another thread perhaps on another site that the factory was closed till 2/1. I placed my order on the east coast on the evening of 12/2 and had a production # 12/6. The car was out of the factory and on its way to the port Thursday 12/16. On Friday 12/17 I read that the factory was closing that night until 2/1/11. My car sat at the port from 12/21 when it arrived there till 1/11/11 to get on a vessel and is now hopefully on its way. Now subsequently my dealer has said the factory was back up and running and I shouldn't pay any attention to what the phone status line reported or what the online status chart said and that he had better info but like most salesmen I'll take what he says with a grain of salt. If indeed the 2/1 date for the factory to be up and running again is true that may explain why you haven't gotten a production number as yet and I got one in 2 days.

Placed my order on March 5th, my 328i coupe/manual black w/ corral red and all options is still "en route." the waiting is driving me crazy! I check the status 3 times a day now like an obsessed lover! I'm working on my new driving playlist, and im fantasying taking it through the gears and flying! UGH! Help!
