DIY - Silencing the spare tire
For awhile now, I had this Woody Woodpecker pecking away somewhere in the trunk. Searched everywhere, no results. Eventually it dawned that maybe the wheel on the spare was rapping against the metal. Especially since I got a full-size. Time to add rubber sound deadening!
Taking out the spare, it's apparent that the rubber strips were seriously worn or damaged - #1. Ok, at a truck/car rubber parts shop, got me a sheet of 1/4" solid rubber, the kind our truckers use for lining their cabin's floor - #2. With a box cutter and a makeshift compass cut out the shape: 24" OD and a little 2 1/4" inner circle for the hold-down "cone" - #3. Fits perfectly! - #4. Now the spare rests on rubber, with no contact whatsoever and it even looks cleaner - #5. Tighten everything down so it doesn't move, and we're all set - #6. For the truly anal, you could cut a rectangular strip of rubber sheet and glue it around the "cone" that mounts the hold-down screw, but that exceeds my lazyness threshold.

![]() Anything that dares rattle around in there, at least till I get my genuine BMW grocery bag holder that screws onto the upper lip of the trunk!

Good idea. Reminds me that I need to check the air pressure in my spare tire.

Isn't it a PITA to have to take everything out just to check the pressure? I always inflate it to, say, 45 PSI so it lasts a long time. In case I need to use it, I'll deflate it after I put it on...

Lmao, I checked my spare tire pressure at the end of may before my autox event. it's been like 7 months since I got the car and the pressure was 0 (cough, atmospheric pressure)
