Tischer sells the rain sensor windshield for $335($305 without). I have no idea what the install costs. Your dealer should match their prices.

$335? That's it? w/shop rate install, that's what.. $600 all in? Trying to decide whether to file an insurance claim or not. Frankly, was expecting (much) more....

windshields are surprisingly cheap. I'd suggest calling an independent shop. They can give you all of the options and best prices. Beyond the rain sensor, there's nothing ultra special about it.

While it isn't an exact scenerio, I had a OEM BMW windshield installed in my E46 M3 for about $550 installed. I think the glass itself was about $250 so if the Z4 glass is $335 I see $600ish being about right.

Thanks for the input all.

Figured like most things BMW, I was looking at least at a grand to get it done. Even funnier, I got a 'quote' from Safelite Auto Glass (www.safelite.com), the glass adjuster for my insurance, and they are saying just under $300 all in to come out to the car and do the work. Wonder what my local BMW dealer (Momentum in Houston) will have to say.

Just a thought..I can't remember if they do this or not, but you can ask/request that SafeLite install OE BMW glass vs. the stuff they usually use. It would be more than the $300 but potentially cheaper than other options AND they will come to your workplace etc.

Also just note that while Momentum might replace it themselves, my local BMW dealer outsources the install/labor anyway.

Safelite

I got a crack in my windshield and my car was already scheduled for service the next day so I filed a claim with Geico. My BMW dealership contracted with Safelite to come replace the windshield free of charge. Well, they installed the wrong windshield and now I have to wait for the glue to cure so that they can take it out without messing up the interior.

I am actually glad it was done at the dealership, because I would have never suspected that the wrong windshield was installed.

Just an FYI

In some states (I live in Kentucky), by law if your windshield is cracked and needs to be replaced the ins company has to replace it with no deductible and no increase in rates. You may want to check with your individual state to see if that is similiar.
