Problem with Low and High beam headlights

I'm a newbie to this forum, I've owned my 1989 E34 535i for 3 years, until just recently I've had trouble free motoring.

I've just replaced the coil and the ECU due to the coil blowing the ECU. (The car wouldn't start, no spark). Tonight I noticed I have no low or high beam headlights , the parking, fog lights and all the rear tail lights work. I've also noticed that the OBC does not display on the instrument panel (above the service LEDS) when pressing the button on the indicators (The OBC did display within the instrument panel prior to the ECU blowing). I've checked all the low/high beam fuses and they all seem to be OK. Could there be an issue with the LKM or a relay?

I've just discovered the high beam headlights work when flicking the indicator stalk. After discovering this I guess it's possible I have a faulty switch?

It is possible that there is an LKM issue. I would start there. Look up www.bmwe34.net. there is a section there on the LKM and fixes for that.

This happened to my 89 535i as well, turned out I needed a new light control module

I've just fixed my lowbeam headlight problem, I had a faulty "Check Control Module", I managed to pick one up for $110 Aus. I also found my LKM module had already been resoldered, it was a dodgy job at best.

Mein Auto: e34 touring 525I
I put new side markers in my touring and now, I have no rear lights and my drivers side turn signal stays on. Is it possible the bulbs are the cause? Plus I just found out my lights are from a 88 735I. Didn't know it til yesterday when I went to clean the lenses....

i'm 99.999% sure that e32 headlights are identical to e34 lights, so they're not causing the problem. HOWEVER, when you changed the side markers, did you use the correct bulbs? cheap auto part store bulbs can cause the computer to spit out error codes. maybe that has something to do with it...
