$4500 Eco Credit for X5D

Hi, Everyone.

It is fortunate to see a lot of warm-hearted people on this site.

I have a couple of quick questions(speaded in two threads). Please help me ASAP as I am striking a deal with dealer this weekend. I think those questions are very tipical. So most of the X5D potential buyers would benifit from your answers.

Dealers are already accepting the 2010 X5 diesel order now. Can I apply the $4500 Eco Credit to the pre-order of 2010 model? Or does that credit only apply to the 2009 model? I called a couple of dealers. They definitely would NOT give me $4500 if I pre-order the 2010 model. They said that credit only applies to the 2009 year model.

I tried to contact BMW USA. But there is no phone number to call. I just don't trust dealers.

How do you think? Anybody please help.

Thanks a lot

I just spoke with a representative with BMW (1-800-578-5000) and he directed me to their website for the info http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ialOffers.aspx. However, it does mention "Applies only to specific models and only for specific model years." He said that the dealers were sent this info in July and should have record of it.

He is checking on the exact years that it pertains too as we speak.

The 4500.00 only applies to the 2009 X5d. It's called trunk money. You can reach BMW 1-800-831-1117 There is also an alternative fuel tax credit from the IRS of 1800.00 on the diesel X5 as well.

Correct, Selo from BMW just called me back and said it only applies to 2009 models.

Happy hunting!!!

I was told by 3 different dealers that the $4,500 incentive applied only to 2009 X5 35d models built before 8/31/09 when we ordered ours in mid July. Ours was built 8/4/09 and we expect to take delivery early next week.

FWIW my SA told me today the overall supply of 2009 X5 35ds were 'drying up' in the SE US. He did a search yesterday could only find 14 X5 35ds available throughout the SE region. BTW this came up in a general discussion of 'how BMW should market the X5 35d' and he no longer has any obvious incentive to smoke me on this info.

Of course you can apply the 4500 to 2010 models! Whatever dealer tells you otherwise is lying. And if youre leasing, its 80% residual and a .000001 MF for all 2010 models. Their waiving the Acq fee as well. Dont offer anything less then 5% under invoice. Economy is in the crapper. Id jump on this deal while it lasts.

Sorry. I cant take it anymore. Ok. Im done.

Can not trust any dealers

I just spoke to BMW USA customer service this afternoon. I even confirmed with their supervisor. The $4500 Eco Credit applies to both the 2009 and 2010 models. As long as I place my order before 8/31, I will qualify for that credit.

But the problem is that the dealers don't tell me the same story. I called over 3 dealers this afteroon. I bypassed the floor guys and talked to sales managers directly. I got the same answer from them. The Eco Credit ONLY applies to the cars delivered before 8/31. It is already 8/8 now. Obviously, there is not enough time for them to deliver a new car before them. That means I have to take one from the existing inventory if I want that credit. But there are only very few 2009 X5 D left in their lots to pick from.

They do not know what they are talking about.

Applies only to 2009 models, and you must take DELIVERY (not just order) by August 31. You must drive the car off the lot by this date.

FWIW the SC factory web site claims that it only takes them 36 hours to actually "build" an X5, IFF they build it straight through: Body Shop (4 hrs) Paint Shop (13 hrs) and Assembly (19hrs). But there is usually some delay between "Start of Production and the Body Shop and between the Paint Shop and Assembly stages. Of course then there's the time for delivery, but you could pick it up a the factory I have seen reports of people who took delivery one week after their X5 entered the body shop. So there is theoretically still time to have a 2009 X5 built and delivered before 8/31. BUT... from my discussions with my SA, the problem is there are almost no remaining "Production Numbers" that can be used to build a 2009 model X5. And the dealers with these 2009 X5 Production Numbers are not trading them to other dealers. So you would need to call around to find a dealer with a 2009 X5 Production Number ASAP.

Funf Dreisig

FWIW our build-to order X5 35d is on it's way to our dealer. We expect deliver early next week w/ the $4,500 incentive deducted

You can include the $4500 credit for a 2009 X5d delivered after 8/31/09 if you lock financing with BMWFS before 8/31/09. If you have outside money that beats the current BMWFS 5.9% rate on X5d models, then you can finance the BMWFS minimum amount of $7500 and still claim the $4500 credit.

Thanks a lot for all your advises.

One question to "Funf Dreisig":

Anyway you could let us know the detail figures of your sweet deal on X5 35d? How much you paid over invoice?
I am calling around now for the production number.

Thanks

The "sweet deal" we got on our X5 35d is that we got the exact vehicle, with the exact options/accessories that we wanted, at a price we thought was fair. And since we plan to keep it for around 10 years, the exact amount we paid above or below invoice won't amount to much in the end.

I don't think you'll get invoice minus 4500. Remember to add training, etc and build in at least 1% ($500) dealer profit - you have to give them something, unless it's the last one on the lot and they just need to get rid of it. Stock seems to be dwindling and I heard too you can't order the '09 anymore because they're out to the week where they're retooling for the 2010. And this almost certainly means the end of the $4500 "credit" as posters above have said.

I ordered on July 22 and my X5d rolls off the line on Aug 19 - I was originally slated for week 36 but got bumped after my dealer's allocation went priority 1.

Good Luck-

I got the $4500 credit (plus additional $2500 I explained in another post, so $7k under invoice in total) without financing with BMWFS.

I spoke with my dealer today. Said they got word yesterday that the $4,500 credit applies to 2010 X5 diesels as long as the order goes in before the 31st. They even showed me the announcement.

Why are people calling this an 'eco credit'????

The $4500 Factory to Dealer incentive (or trunk money) is not a published incentive, BMWNA will not confirm this.

If you ask them and talk about the 'diesel incentive' they will think you are confused (you are) and you are asking about the federal diesel tax credit. (That incentive is good for any year,. 2009 or 2010.) They will be answering the wrong question, and you are asking the wrong question.

I'd be shocked if BMW is paying a $4500 dealer incentive with the 2010 models (and if they are I will pass on my 2009 next week!)

I ordered a 2010 X5d this morning and I did get the $4500 eco-credit.
The dealers have the memo from BMW dated Aug. 12th stating that as long as the order is placed by Aug. 31st the $4500 can be applied to a 2010 model. Call it a gift from BMW

ard,

Yes this is "trunk money", but they are actually marketing it in this case to get more interest in the diesel models since they have not sold many and they thought this was an excellent opportunity to take advantage of all the press about the cash for clunkers program.

And yes, you absolutely can get this $4500 on a 2010 model, BMW just announced that this past week. You must order by 8/31 to get it locked in.
