Phone Questions

I asked on another thread, but thought I'd give the question a thread of it's own. Has anyone paired a VzW Blackberry Storm with the new 750? Issues? Full phone book integration?

Also, I'm getting conflicting information about the $150 Smartphone option. If I don't select the option, does it mean that my center console will be free from that obnoxious phone cradle contraption?

I believe that's correct. You will still be able to use Bluetooth, but won't be able to "dock" it using a snap-in that will allow you to charge the phone, use the car's antenna for better reception and, in the case of the iPhone, listen to music.

Sorry I can't confirm the VzW Blackberry Storm. You can always go down to the dealer and try to sync it with a car on the lot.

Good suggestion about attempting to sync it with the dealer's car. I know that I tried to sync my Storm w/ my wife's 2009 3er wagon (with the new iDrive) when she first took delivery, but wasn't able to get the address book to transfer. That's why I was curious about the new 7's set-up.

That cradle thing in the center console is an enormous waste of space, so I am really hoping I won't have that.

I'd normally agree. I got it for my iPhone 3GS since I like to charge the phone in the car and might as well enhance the reception. I think it will also force me to stop tinkering with the phone while driving... so I stop getting from my wife.

The snap in and out is really slick and quick. It's smart that they made these "snap-in" adapters so the functionality can adapt as new phones come out... rather than be stuck with an old crable for an obsolete phone.

I won't be using it for music since I'll have a seperate iPod attached via the iPod cable.

Well, I'm stuck with Verizon, so the iPhone isn't an option for me. (Wish it were. I have such a love/hate relationship with the Storm and have always been an Apple fan.) I just don't want to lose the entire center console to something that I can't/won't use.

It seems "BMW_GAL" is using a storm on her '09 3er without any issue. Maybe she can help...

I, too, am stuck with Verizon. Where my kids live, that's the only network that really works. No Verizon, no "friends and family". Sooo... I paid $150 for the Smart Phone thing. While I had no trouble pairing the Storm, the Smart Phone cradle is a waste of money and a huge waste of space in the console since there is no cradle available for the Storm. At least not yet. Both the dealer and BMW North America tell me to "check back" in a few months. Harumph!

Well, I skipped the $150 option and since my car has been pulled into production already, the decision has been made. From what the dealer is telling me, though, even without the $150 "Smartphone" option, I will still have that space-killing thing in the console. Wish there was a way to get rid of it.

I tend not to stick with the same phone for long (I'm already curious about the new BB Tour and the coming BB Storm 2), so doing anything that is phone-specific doesn't make a lot of sense.

I looked at 2 750i's tonight. Both of them had the smartphone cradle, but neither of them listed "smartphone integration" on the sticker. Was this included at no charge on some set of cars?

Also - does anyone know how (or if) the adapter works for the blackberry bold?

No way to avoid the cradle. It is installed with or without the "smartphone integration". It just won't work without the option.

Well, that's unfortunate. (And it's also unfortunate that the "product expert" I was talking to at the dealership insisted that since it had the cradle all I needed was the adapter).
