Exhaust issues and fitment are the most worrisome parts, I happen to be sitting on some cash right now, and I need to budget it out pretty carefully for the time being because my part time jobs tend to let me down around this time of year It would be a DD, so I don't know if I could afford to have it sitting around for any extended periods of time waiting for back ordered parts and a custom exhaust..

Plus, going turbo would be an afterthought at this point in time, I could afford to slowly gather parts and slap it in later in the year. If I did that, and I knew the engine was able to handle more power, I'd set higher goals (plus, the turbo could be swapped onto a newer, lower mileage M20 if the current one blew..).
I'm more concerned about getting the interior and suspsension up to par. The exterior really doesn't need much, other than a good wax/polish.

spending thousands on a turbo setup for 220whp. when you could spend about 500-1k and have an s50 in your e30. then easily have 220whp.

turbo has the option of getting much more power with simple upgrades. your not going to get turbo m20 power from an s50 NA.

at least your goals are on your car. im about to drop another $600 into my bike. and thats just on cranks rear wheel and a front rim. and im still looking for a hub to run but all my choices are slimming soon all because there is few companies state side that have the one(s) i want

Basically my thoughts were with steve on this one. I know that right now the S50 would be my best option, seeing as how I have all the big stuff already for the swap. But I like the idea of slowly building my first turbo kit over the course of a couple months, while taking care of the essentials right away using the cash from the S50/other M3 parts.

I know that with a moderate turbo setup I'd eventually crave more, and then I could use my basic setup as a launch pad for more serious #s.

There was a local turbo kit for sale about 40 minutes from me, only $2k. He pulled it off his 95 M3 which was making 290whp with a conservative tune/boost. If I had a lotta money to play with I'd be all over this, but until school is done I'm kinda stuck

$600 wouldnt even make a dent in my "to buy" list . will hopefully have it all this week, small amount will go to the red car, the rest is not directly car related.

Quick question, would swapping the 4.10 LSD from the 318is into a 325i be a bad idea? I don't know much about gearing, but I think that'd make it slower right? If thats the case I'll just suck it up and get an LSD from a 325is..

i keep my cell phones till they completely stop working. buying dozens of phones is one of dumbest things people do IMO. ive had my blackberry pearl for years.

4.10 will make the car quicker but lower top speed.

Do you know how drastic the differences would be? I never really worry about top speed, I just DD my car and happen to have this diff on the 318is, and I want/need an LSD..

i've heard people complain about bad fuel efficiency at highway speed with a 4.10...

Well, 95% of my driving is 40-100 mile trips, so perhaps that wouldn't be the best route for me

3.25 lsd from the 6 series?

I hated the 4.10 in my car. had to shift by the time I got across the intersection Imagine having 1/2 of a first gear as 1st, 2nd will be 1st etc. 80mph cruising was around 3500-3700RPM IIRC.

We got a new puppy!

His name is turbo and he will be my "shop dog" once he is a little older. He is an American Pit Bull Terrier (sorry, crappy cell pics)...



and here he met my German Boxer for the first time. They have the same brindle markings

Wouldn't that make it pretty slow? I don't mind getting 22mpg really, I can drive the 318is if I want fuel economy, I want this one to be fun yet get acceptable MPGs.
