X5 Diesel -- Demo Incentive?

All -- first off, let me thank everyone for the invaluable postings they have done on this board. This is my first post, however, I have been following bimmerfest for quite a while now.

After a lot of soul searching, we're about to lock a 2009 X5 Diesel that I found in the area.

The dealer is telling me that its been used as a 'special demo' -- it has about 130 miles on the vehicle and has been utilized for test drives as well as for a service shuttle occassionally.

It was built in November, and, the dealer got it in December.

My question: I know this qualifies for the $4500 eco rebate, but does it also qualify for the special $2500 dealer demo incentive that was out there back in Jan/Feb? The dealer is telling me that it has never been registered nor has it ever been officially logged with BMW as a demo -- i.e. he is saying that the warranty etc will begin the day that I purchase.

So, should I negotiate keeping only the $4500 in mind, or, would this also qualify for the extra $2500? Right now, he is about invoice - $4000.

Thank you in advance. I want to finalize this with him tomorrow.

Regards...

They can extend the warranty for being a demo. I don't know about the demo credit. Are you purchasing it for invoice-4500.00?

The key would be whether or not the vehicle has an "in-service" date of Jan-Feb. It seems that it may not qualify for the additional $2500 incentive, given that the dealer stated the warranty would start from the date it's purchased. But, you should request the BMW NA vehicle history report perhaps. If you can't get the additional $2500 discount, you may be better off negotiating on a 2010 at a price around just over invoice - $4500, in my opinion.

Get the terms of the warranty- ie "start date" and "inservice date" in writing - make it part of the agreement...

A dealer may say "we'll extend the warranty" but they are NOT BMW. BMW na is the entity that is warrantying the car, not the dealer.

Thanks...

All... thank you for your responses, much appreciated! In the end, looks like I'll get a little over $10k off MSRP for a 2009 with 110 miles on it. They have confirmed that the factory warranty will begin from date of my contract. I would have waited to order a 2010, but, need a car right away.

thats a pretty good deal. i've been looking at leftover 2009 X5ds also targeting about 10K off but no one is willing to go that low.
