Not being political, just trying to figure out if I could expect that credit if I were to order one, say, next week.

Thanks!

Credit from BMWNA off the price of the car. Not government. Not a rebate either, to my knowledge

That is how it was explained to me as well...credit, so tax is not calculated on the 4500

Yes, the $4500 is a credit to be deducted from the vehicle price, at least to the extent you can negotiate with the dealer.

Separately, the federal tax credit for purchasing an X5d is calculated with your 2009 federal income tax return in April 2010.

I am confident there will be many bimmerfest posts on the federal income tax credit starting in March 2010. Check back then, as I'm sure festers will share the details on what IRS form or how to enter the credit on tax preparation software.

Ordered my 2010 x5 xDrive 35d today with the premium and technology packages, sport package, sport contour seats, NAV, running boards, cold weather package, etc. White exterior and black Nappa leather. I requested taking delivery at Spartanburg, SC which is being worked out. I hope to receive details on factory delivery on Monday, but I'm very excited from what I have read and heard about it. Also, I think it may possibly shorten the 4 to 5 week delivery time, although I don't know by how much.

Altough I worked out a special arrangement with BMW due to problems with my previous 535i, they still gave me the $4500 credit on top of it

Just FYI: the 2010 Sport Package does NOT INCLUDE THE ADAPTIVE SUSPENSION.

many are not aware of this, and BMW's inability(or lack of desire) to re-program the web "build your own" makes this a bit of a dirty secret.

Is the adaptive suspension something I will want? How would I order it? It doesn't appear as an option for the xDrive35d (diesel)
Also - how accurate are these prices? In other words, does a dealer like Herb Chambers BMW (high volume) pay even less due to factory incentives, CPI, etc?
Thank you!

Don't know (if YOU will want it). Did you test drive an X5? With or without?

The Adaptive Drive is option "2VA"...click on the link posted above your post. Oh, it says "(Included in package)" but that does not apply to the X5 -note there is no package listed under the price, so it is actually not included in any package. In 2009 it was in the "Sport Package"... now they call it the "sport activity package" and no adaptive drive. It is ONLY a separate option for 2010.

Prices are accurate. I do not believe there are tangible (ie cash) incentives for high volume dealers- more likely they get intangibles like allocation of popular models, etc.

Decent price is Invoice+MACO+Training+Delivery minus $4500 eco credit plus 500-1000 profit.

Actually, the linked document says that the Adaptive Drive is included in the ZMP package (M Sport package) on the non-diesel X5s, which is correct. The 35d doesn't have the ZMP package available. You can order it as a stand alone $3500 option on any of the X5s.

I read a bit about it, and the adaptive drive seemed like a 'must have', so I ordered it. You're correct, Emerson11, it is only available as a stand alone option at additional cost.
Package ZAP, Sport Activity Package, deletes the sport suspension (lame!) but gives you a sports steering wheel, 19" wheel/tire package, sport seats (or a $1,00 upgrade to multi-contour seats, which I had to order anyway to get the Nappa leather) as well as shadowline trim and anthracite headliner. It's less of a 'sport package' and more of a 'goodies' package, if you ask me.

It snowed today, believe it or not, in October! Looking forward to my new X5....

If you enjoy driving, you'll appreciate Adaptive Drive. I test-drove two X5 3.0's with and without Adaptive Drive and found an obvious difference in the two vehicles. Every driver has different tastes and needs, but if you're moving from a 535 with Sport Package to the X5, you will probably like the Adaptive Drive.

+1 on the "goodies package" comment about ZAP. I'm disappointed BMW deleted the sport functionality from the so-called "sport" package for 2010 X5 models. Ard's post was on target: buyers might think their vehicle will handle well with a "sports" package only to discover that Adaptive Drive is missing. I think BMW is making a big mistake in changing the "sport" package for 2010 X5 into a visual package and omitting the driving experience from it.

Enjoy your new X5d. I picked up my 2009 X5d this weekend, driving about 250 miles back home across two states. I'll post more in a few weeks after I've driven it for a while. Initial impression: fun to drive overall, and especially compared to the wife's Volvo XC90; gobs of interior space; responsive acceleration; and 27.3 MPG highway mileage.

Mistake for who? BMWNA? Hardly. It really ticked me off, but I see no downside to the company.

With the new model (2011) coming, there will be no auto magazines panning the handling of the X5d based on test drives in a 2010 without adaptive. Maybe a hand full of clueless owners mildly disappointed.

The X5 is being redesigned for 2011? What am I doing spending all this money on a car that will be changing body styles in less than a year?
That irritates me, because I noticed the E70 was introduced in 2007, so I asked the dealer when it was going away, and they said "it will be at least a couple of years'.

Not much of a redesign. New front end and rear... just a refreshening.

It will have the gaping hole look of the X6 and X5M on the front.

Probably an LED tailight and some minor interior stuff as well.

The 2010 Model got the big change -- the new generation idrive. I've been waiting for that to get into the X5.

2011

That is correct the front and backs will be redesigned or refreshed so the 2010's should have some very aggressive programs on them shortly. Additionally, the 2011 are supposed to be released in March or April aka MID MODEL YEAR for 2010. Our lease is up and we are really debating extending the current lease for 6 months just to get the 2011.

I'm stuck. I turned in my old car to BMW already, and I'm driving a loaner from the dealer until my car is ready. I guess I'll have to suck it up and try to be okay with an 'older' body style. I hate feeling like I have the old car, when the car will be like 6 months old! Oh well.

Regardless, I'm pretty excited - I entered my production number into the website and saw my car on order. It shows that it is a base xDrive 35d in Vermillion Red Metallic with a beige interior, but I think that is because the dealer is changing an existing production slot to get me the car faster.

I actually ordered mine like this:

2VA Adaptive Drive
322 Comfort Access
328 Running Boards
386 Roof rails
4AD Brushed aluminum trim
655 Satellite Radio with 1 Yr subscription
6FL iPod and USB adapter
6NF Smartphone Intergration
(requires 6FL and ZPP)
4M5 Nappa Leather Dashboard and Center Console

Colors/upholsteries

Exterior Alpine White (NC - non metallic)
interior Black Nappa Leather
NA Nappa Leather

Packages

ZAP Sport Activity Package
456 multi countour seats (upgrade)
ZCW Cold Weather Package
ZPP Premium package
ZPS Premium Sound Package
ZTP Technology Package

You seriously trust a 'dealer' to answer ANY question honestly??

(I don't ask them for directions to the bathroom...)

Really, their goal is to sell you a car TODAY, and anything that would potentially cause you to pause or question will be 'spun' or 'shaded'.

I also hear the X5 diesel will have a new 'tri-turbo'?

A

PS I keep cars for 8+ years, so I really don't care what it looks like compared to others....look at the bright side, the 2010 will likely have some of the ongoing issues addressed via mfg corrections.... maybe

Scot,
Wish I had such a close date, would be cool to see someone else from the board there. Who knows, maybe I'll run into someone anyway.
Very happy I double check the order sheet 20 minutes ago at the dealer, because the brushed aluminum interior trim had been left out!
Now, I get to sit and wait...this is like torture!

ard,
I guess it will be okay. I think it's a very good looking car, and I'll think I'll really enjoy it...

Why would BMW release the 2011's so early? What's the strategy in that?

Because the original refresh planned for the 2010 MY got delayed for some reason, and they don't want to wait and waste 5-6 months of potential increased sales by waiting until October. Hence an early release of the 2011 model.

While not necessarily common, such early MY releases are that unusual any more.

That makes sense. Is it confirmed or speculation?
