Yes Max, I was really glad to see you too (but that was a shift lever in my pocket)

I wish there were more people like you, not just at Homecoming but everywhere.

Sue (not Mrs. Forbes) and I are looking forward to seeing you again too.

Thanks again for all you did for us while you were here, see you next year!

Only 359 days 'till we get here again (we always arrive early).

I much appreciated the company for my first HC! Snail mail address is on the way. Glad you made it home Sunday instead of having to wait it out a day.

As for the map... I don't think they identify the rough areas of Greenville unless we find a crime map somewhere. What's with the kids these days? When did it become cool to drop out of school, work for Burger King and hang out at the local pumping station (with no service garage)? I must be getting old.

Pictures are uploading onto my web site right now. After pruning and organizing, I'll post a URL (and pray all my bandwidth doesn't vanish for a week ). I'm really bummed I didn't take a picture of more people, including you! I guess I got too caught up in trying to shoot cars instead of humans.

Al, I owe you some stoneguards, in exchange for HRE assistance. I'll Xpel them tomorrow, if you send me your snail mail address I'll get them out to you this week.

Randy, OHP was out in force, even in the rain (it rained almost all the way from Cincinnati to Ann Arbor). Got laser tagged twice on I-75, both times from officers gunning from behind a concrete barrier with their patrol car completely hidden from view. Neither tag resulted in a stop, but the second case may have been due to an Escalade going much faster (like ~ 110mph; I'm glad he got pulled over, he was an a$$hole driver, weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, using no signals). Watch yourself on the way home (if for anything, the monster SUVs driven well beyond their limits). I-40 was clear all the way, and not congested. Cinci to Dayton was heavily patrolled, both laser gunners were there.

Everyone else... nice to meet you, and I'm looking forward to doing it all over again next year. I hope you all arrive(d) home safely.

Ugliest sighting on the way home... an old Mazda 626 with 100mm spacers and tinted glass. Obviously it looked like crap (even had factory steel wheels w/ hubcaps!), but the funny part was the difficulty the guy was having negotiating the turns in the mountains on I-40, and he was driving under the speed limit. I'm definitely getting old; I fail to understand how it's cool to ruin what little handling your car has, promote very uneven tire wear, etc. while throwing road debris all over the side of your car.

Nicest sighting on the way home... the two BMW bikes that escorted me from Lexington almost to Toledo. Courteous attentive riders (wearing reflective clothing), I'm sure I pissed off some obnoxious drivers by blocking them from running up the bikers' butts a few times, but so be it. I wish more folks could understand how much more irritating a tailgater is when you're on 2 wheels.

Hi Daniel,

I'm so glad your road trip was uneventful (you've had enough trouble...).

Sue & I are glad you had a good time at your first HC. This being our third was the best so far (even though we got the 01 @ PDC the day before our 1st HC).

I have Al's address if you don't get it right away, I'm certain he'll be pretty busy when he gets home. If you haven't already noticed, he hits the ground running!

Thanks especially for the road tips. By the time we get to Ohio Sue is usually behind the wheel. I tend to go ever faster the longer I drive, so we have this system worked out that I don't drive the last leg home through Ohio

Looking forward to seeing those pictures!!

We'll be in touch...

Gang, glad people are making it home fine.

Had a great time as usual, and enjoyed seeing old friends and seeing new friends.

Like Randy, we are counting down the days until next year.

We ended up hitting some NASTY rain going up I-81, so we ended up stopping for the night in Harrisonburg, VA.

Today the police we out in more than force, they were EVERYWHERE. Camille got tagged in VA for the radar detector being on. No points, but $40, plus $49 processing fee, plus $5 "local fee".

We did see an SUV that had rolled yesterday between Roanoke and Harrisonburg. He had blown by us earlier in heavy rain going like stink. Camille was driving, and not exactly going really slowly.

Best wishes to everyone, and see you next year.

Terry and Camille Carraway

PS Randy had more than just shifters in his pocket.

We got in a few minutes past 6:00 PM (about 9-1/2 hrs including 3 gas stops and 1 lunch stop).

We caught rain just north of Cinci and it kept us company all the way to our garage door

And yes, Sue was the one behind the wheel!

We saw lots of troopers in every state we went through, but nowhere moreso than Ohio (big surprise there...).

Max,
When I was approaching my stop over point on the way home I decided to cancel and do the 872 mile trip in one shot.
Fourteen or so hours later, I arrived home safe and sound with no negative incidents.
Total HC trip for me was 2226 miles averaging 22.3 miles per gallon on the OBC. Had a great time.
20,875 total miles on the car.
Thanks for the gift and Chop Chop.
Ron

Back in Seattle Now...

AndyM and KenM and I rolled into 'Nati at 1:30am on Sunday morning. We left the vendor area at about 5:30pm and drove straight back. That part of the trip was not much fun (at all).

I flew into Seattle last night at 6:22pm via Delta 757 service.

We want to thank everyone for stopping by the tent, both for saying hello and for your business. HC is a really, really hectic time for us and I always leave feeling like we didn't spend enough energy saying thanks. You (especially the Bimmerfest inner circle) are why we have been so successful. I had a really great time this year… partially because it didn't rain and partially because one of us finally got a car to HC after 5 years of attendance.

Max, many thanks (again) for the chops and the waters. Now we owe you.

For those unaware, our tents were totally destroyed by rain and wind on Thursday night. When we rolled in Friday morning to see the rubble, I don't think either Andy nor myself have been that pissed off since the VidTerry debacle. I was pissed as a hornet. We're taking the tent destruction as a sign that we need to think bigger. No more cheap-o popup tents. Next year we're going to get really serious. Among other things, we'd like to offer the Linquist girl and Max temp jobs in our tent. We need more staff to help customers faster. ...And a keg or Warsteiner to offer refreshments to people who are waiting.

Andy and I got the inventory unpacked and stowed in 'Nati. Over the next few months, we plan on expanding our product line to include more performance products and also an onslaught of Z4-specific products.

"The gloves come off" to use the words of a favorite LeatherZ watch-while-you-leather movie.

Oh Yea Work

I'm back at work.

well this is the story:

Don't take roads home that don't start with a capitol "I"

We left the music center, which was beautifully done, and our very good friends to head home around 1:30

The map showed state road 64 then 74 would get us to I-85 ("I" get it). well zooming along at 45mph and stopping in every town got us to I-85 2 hours later! next time I would go back to S.C. and get I-85 there.

RAIN, RAIN AND RAIN

cars skidding along everywhere. we cruised along staying away from everyone. I love my car! we rolled in around 6:30.

Courtney helped unpack the car and we had dinner and got her packed up for her flight back to NY. She left monday morning and when she called me from NY her first words were can't wait for next year.

Yes Jon, Courtney would love to work in the new, giant Leather Z -BIG TOP! Your neighbors are outclassed by you guys. Put the pedal to the metal and expand. With the technical experts you guys have there should be no limit. good luck

Max, where is Max. I miss him. Whenever I turned around he was there with a good word!

I think I saw a billboard with Al and Vinnie's pictures on it! Those guys are funny. What a pair. It wouldn't be the same without them thats for sure. Where are they? Did they go back to that cultural place in greenville? I gotta get hopping on my engine bay. Al chastized me for the dirt! Ron can we chrome my water hoses?

The autocross: We know who really won!

The chophouse: Whew, I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

Ron: ....you think so? "What do you mean do I think so" We love ya. Thanks for all the help.

Next year we gotta plan a better arrangement for parking at the hotel.

Chips and scratches. crap I can't believe how many I got!

Randy, please email me Al's addresses (email and snail mail). Also, there's at least one print I think you'll want from HC (you and Sue by the sidewalk when folks were leaving the group photo).

Bob, send me your email address and snail mail address. dwmNOSPAM@mcplex.net (remove the NOSPAM). I have some 13"x19" prints I think you want (free of charge, of course).

Andy, a 13"x19" print will come to you sometime next week. I'm not gonna tell you which photo, but feel free to guess.

Next year, if I don't get a shot of Ron's engine bay and Andy's interior, I'm gonna hang myself. How did I miss that this year?

If anyone has a snail mail address for Kenn Sparks, I'd much appreciate it (to send him a print of his coupe picture).

Gald to hear all are getting home without problems

My daughter and I made it back to Texas, we took our time. We took about 300 miles of the Natchez Trace Parkway at a leisurely 60 mph, 10 over the speed limit. We discovered that while beautiful it should be taken in 50 mile doses. The trip to HC had a couple of fun reasons to break out the old Kodak.

Floridians back home

We arrived back home yesterday afternoon after driving straight through from Highlands, NC, where we spent an additional 3 nights after HC officially ended on Sunday afternoon. Had a wonderful time and it was great seeing/meeting everyone.

My Homecoming Journal at http://www.z3roadster.net/hc_journal/ is finally finished off. Randy, see the last entry (at the very top) for the promised retraction! We love ya, buddy.

Here's a shot of M-Bark under Bridal Veil Falls near Highlands.

Thanks Shawn!

My personal congratulations to Jon still stand, it wasn't easy to get that Z4 around those tight turns. He turned in a fast time (just wasn't quite as fast as mine ).

I'll make sure that Sue sees your journal. It was great seeing you and Jim again!
