Driver seat and Steering wheel problem!

I have a 98 bmw 528i and my driver's seat and steering wheel do not move in any direction. I try moving it and it just doesn't move. Still didn't work when I tried using the memory module.

Anyone have this similar problem?

How can this be fixed?

Thanks!!

The steering wheel settings are set using the same memory as the seat, so they're on the same system.

Check the paneling around the seat controls. If it is loose or broken (very common issue) the connector may be unplugged or broken.

Yes...you did...but it doesn't appear that you read the thread thoroughly that James linked you to yesterday over on BimmerForums.

Did you try everything mentioned in the thread? I ask because I'm puzzled as to your response that you "heard" that the steering wheel and seats where linked...that linked thread on Bimmerforums explained how the seat control module behind the seat surround controls both the seat & steering wheel column...and if the harness is UNPLUGGED or pulled away from the module...it will stop the seat and column from operating. Which is the same thing noob and danny repeated here on BimmerFest.

Here's a link back to your thread on Bimmerforums...scroll down to James' reply and click on the links he gave and read through them thoroughly: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1302545

Good luck...and post back on BOTH forums what you found....there's no need to keep asking for suggestions if you don't look into what's already been given and report back your findings. You'll just end up getting the same information over & over.

PS: and if you click James' 2nd link...it gives you the whole thread and you'll see the the original poster fixed the problem by following the links and instructions on how to remove the seat surround and access the switch.

Question 2002 525i adj. steering wheel and driver seat not working

Not tryin' to jack your post, but I have the same issue. My 2002 525i. The steering and seat adjustment went at the same time. Took it to a BMW mechanic and he mentioned a
'convenience module' needed to be replaced???
I hope the answers I'm reading here will apply to my car.

Yes...click the link to the thread over on BimmerForums. The convenience exit feature is integrated into the large control module for the driver seat. If the plastic base around your seat is loose or broken on either the front or rear side...it's almost a dead give-a-way that it's the likely culprit if your seat & steering wheel column stops working and there are no other electrical gremlins like what you get with a failing ignition switch.

EDIT: here's the last part of the info I posted over on Bimmerforums...the OP posted back that he got the issue resolved...again, if you want to read that whole thread...click James" 2nd link in POST #2 at the link on BimmerForums.

The switch you need to check is the large black one that is on the other side of you seat cover (the plastic thing around the base of the seat). The electrical harness connects to that switch with one of the infamously over-engineered connectors where you have to press down on a small release button which allows you to move the lever that pushes the connector away from the switch (see image below):
When the seat cover breaks and hangs loose around the seat...the movement as you enter/exit out of the car tends to bear weight on this electrical harness and it breaks away from the switch (see image below):

..you can see how the switch breaks in almost the exact place...the image above & below are TWO different switches (above is from an e38/below is Bluebee's e39) but broke in the same place...

If my supossition is correct and you only removed the seat buttons and missed the actual electrical harness...then go to this link for a previous write-up on how to access the seat switch...from this write-up you will see what to do: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...88&postcount=2

REPORT BACK YOUR FINDINGS.
