you can see if there is something specific at an auto supply store. like a vinyl paint
There is an automotive flexible trim paint available but your colour choice is limited to flat black. If not, a home building center will have a plastic specific spray. I belive the name brand is Krylon. Something else you may want to consider is doing a colour match on a few interior peices to match your body colour. You will have to do a base coat then clear it. It's a little more tricky but the results are nice and you can go with a nice glossy finish. You can buy this by the can at an automotive supply store. BMW has a glossy black interior trim package available and it is stunning. You really have nothing to lose. If you totaly mess up go find a high school that has a body shop and pay a student $20 to do it for you.

Take your door handle to an Automotive Paint Store and see if they can match the color. They can probably look the color up in a book and get a good match. The paint needs to have an additive mixed with it so it remains flexible. I repainted my interior pieces on my 76 Corvette a few years ago. They are holding up well. Ask the guy at the paint store what you should use for a cleaner to prep the surface. Some of my parts I ran through the dishwasher as part of the cleaning operation. It took some work to clean all the years of dirt and smoke off.

Better yet. Take it to the dealer if your still in warranty. There is a tsb out for that. The 06's had that painted and then BMW realized the paint will peel and now that part is injection molded. I just had mine replaced under warranty. But the whole side panel needs to be replaced.

I have a 2006 325i which is the year known for peeling paint on the vinyl door handles. Just search forums on "peeling paint". Finally got around to resolving. Took my OBD cover off and used as a swatch at autopart's store. Found vinyl paint by SEM and chose Medium Gray 15393. I heard on the forums that Presidio 15163 is also a good match. It is darker. I was pleased with the match of the Medium Gray.
I prepped surface area with hot water and dish soap using a grey scratch pad. I then used Goof Off to wipe down area using a shammy cloth. I then carefully masked off area. I removed trim piece as I contemplated removing the door panel to remove handle, but thought better of it. It was cold so I opened the garage door and turned the cars heat on. The can had been in the house so it was 70°F. I then sprayed some paint on a box as it initially will sometimes spit chunks. I then applied four thin coats waiting ten minutes between coats. I waited an hour and removed masking. I am pleased with the result. Last edited by George Ab; 01-10-2013 at 01:36 PM. |

E90 center console peeling
My 2006 E90 console pint was rubbing off. I removed it, cleaned it all with Mineral spirits, taped it off and painted it with some spray paint. It did the job see pics.
