[/COLOR] Had this message appear a couple times this week. "Power steering fluid of hydraulic fluid loss. Contact BMW roadside assistance" But when I turned the car off and restarted in went away. Has anyone recieved this message? If so is it as simple as adding fluid or something major. I don't see any leaks and no difference in steering.

Happened to me twice. First time I thought I had no leaks and just topped off the Pentosin (SP?) CHF11S. Six months later it came on again and I started noticing some fluid. Could not track it down. Kept it filled and finally discovered it was a bad seal on the sway bar and just had the sway bar replaced. First real failure on this car, hopefully it is not a sign of things to come as I know I have been rather lucky to this point.

I had the same thing a couple months after I bought my car. I shelled out $25 for a quart of Pentosin CHF11S, topped off the reservoir, and have not had a problem since.

All leaks have to start at some point. And they frequently start small. Anyway I would just top off the fluid and see if it takes care of the problem.

Thanks for the replies. I topped it off and it seems to be fine now. I haven't seen any leaks. Everything is bone dry. Even in the dust cover. I'll keep an eye out.

Power steering fluid reservoir to the right of the engine if you are standing in front of the car.

NO IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE - Go to your local BMW dealer parts department for OEM hydraulic fluid or a parts store which sells Pentosin CHF11S hydraulic fluid.![]() You add what is necessary to put the level at the correct mark on the dip stick

Get a suction tube pump from the autoparts store and suck out that stuff! Its like mixing a quart of regular oil with the synthetic brands.
Use exactly what that cap says. Which should be CF11. CF11 has high temperature variances allowing it to work the same in very cold and very hot conditions. The hydraulics run through the entire car so mixing in regular power steering would be like introducing a contaminate. It might not break the car but the the different viscosity could cause seals to be stressed or some other abnormality. |

I received the same message a week ago and the dealer added some fluid for me when I stopped by for other things.
My questions is; is it normal for the car to consume fluid, or should I push for them to find the leak? Warranty expires in 2 weeks....

I would check the connection from the tank to the powersteering pump, the line from and goes from the intercooler (sits in front of your radiator) The dsc stability bar in the in the center, and the dsc valve block. Those would be the big costs. If your not sure of the locations look at realoem under powersteer and front axle |
