How do I connect my iPhone iPod to iDrive?

Hi,

I have a 2007 328i and got the iPhone 3GS yesterday. A happy customer on both counts

I tried to connect the white USB cable provided by apple, to the USB port in the glove box and the other end to the phone. The iDrive didn't detect my iPhone/iPod, though I am certain I got the car with the 'iPod and USB adapter'. Is there a special cable/dongle that is required to connect my iPhone's iPod to the iDrive. I am not particularly a big fan of the headphone jack wire connecting to the AUX port.

Thanks

You need the special two headed cable and the connection ports are in the center console not the glove box.

If you don't have the Y-cable, you didn't get the iPod & USB option. Absent the iPod & USB option, iDrive won't communicate with iTunes on your iPhone.

I am sorry. I meant the USB and Aux port are in the center console under the arm rest. I am pretty sure the CPO agreement listed 'IPOD and USB adapter' as one of the features.

Can I buy this Y-cable off amazon, or it should have been supplied by BMW? Could you tell me the specific name, so I can shop for it?

Thanks.

If you have the iPod & USB option on your car, there will be a combination connector that looks like the USB port right next to the 3.5mm circular jack in the storage area under the center armrest. If you don't have that combination connector and the Y-cable, your dealer will have to install a BMW accessory iPod controller for iDrive to interface with iTunes on your iPhone.

Just go to the dealer and buy the Y cable. Hook it up and it will be fine. I paid $62 at the dealer.

When you hook it up it will tell you to go to airplane mode but press canx.

I can control my iPod and take phone calls with this configuratiom
