55K on mine (2004 530i). Had my TCU replaced 2 years ago (under warranty).
At the moment, only issues are use-related: Need to replace tie-rods and right control arm. Battery needs replacement as well.

2004 545I 66000K miles on it, purchased used two years ago. No major issue at all except the I touch system freezes the screens and you cant listen to music or anything . Unless I remove the navigation CD and then it reboots up. Not sure if this is an issue or not but I have had to do it 3 times in the pass two years. According to the carfax no major issue for the original owner. The original owner had all service done at BMW and so do I. Except I refuse to pay their prices for tires so I went to sears yesterday and got some Goodyear F1. I hope to get 120K on this puppy before I give it up.

Sorry to say this guys, but I am getting rid of mine now.
OK so on the way out of town, the car hid a minor snag. Driving down I-85 S and all of a sudden Dynamic Drive malfunction, mind you I am doing 70+MPH. Then no more than 1 second later Active Steering Failure, ABS Failure, CBC Failure (Sealt Belt System), Electrical Malfunction. Still shocked by what is being displayed, nothing says stop driving or pull over. Then I look back at the instrument cluster and the tachometer is showing RPM's but the speedometer shows nothing. 0 MPH yet still doing I would guess 70 MPH or so, could not tell since there was no speed. So I managed to pull over and turn the car off to see if a system reboot will help. It kind of did. Only half the errors were gone, but Dynamic Drive, Steering, and ABS were all still there and maybe some others but did not pay attention. We looked up in the BMW book for the closest dealership and fond one in Columbus GA only 30 miles. We made it there and had to have them give us a loaner while and leave the problem child with them. I will say that when we stopped and went inside the key reader did say that there was a Dynamic Drive malfunction but nothing else, and when the SA went outside to start the car up there were no faults showing. Go figure! At this point if they cannot find anything with the car thenit is out of here. This is finally the last straw. ![]() The next day the dealer was able to look at the car and determine that the Alternator was bad and producing too many amps. Not heard of that. So in producing too many amps it fried the regulator that controls how all the systems get power. This was only $1300 in repairs, and that is with a reurbished alternator. I hate to know what a new one costs. This just adds to the aludry list of problems I have had with this car from day one of my CPO purchase. Thankfully most of the major ones were covered under CPO, but now that I am not and is going to require at least another $5000 maintenance, the car is outa here! But I do have 133K miles now. It's been fun! Last edited by GPFboyJS; 07-06-2010 at 08:41 PM. |

My 2008 535 just reached 45,000miles. I need to bring the car in to the dealer on Monday because the car runs like $#!t. I had a problem with "reduced power" etc. etc. ( but the car ran smoothly) and they had to replace one of the turbo/wastegates. After I got the car back, it now stumbles, bucks, idles roughly and surges under part throttle. I am sure they will tell me theres are no faults recorded, normal, etc. Luckily this is a company car and I will get to replace it toward the end of next year. These cars are for leasing while under warranty. I would not want to actually own or keep one.

Owned a 2000 528i until last year with 152,000 miles on it. Other than regular, expected maintenance I had to replace the battery in 2007 and in 2008 replaced the water pump, radiator and thermostat. It didn't have even a door ding on it. Got $4,900 for it toward a new 535ix - now with 10,800 mi and absolutely love the thing it is a beast. I-Drive with the iphone 3g integration is flawless.

Just hit 96,000 today and so far have just had minor problems really. Had the dealer install the AUX input and I replaced my seat mat sensor which wasn't a difficult install. Also fixed an oil leak with a new seal which was cheap and easy to do, but messy. Still thinking about selling because I have nightmares about how expensive this car could be if things start breaking.

Up to 151,300 miles on my 2004 545i. Oil leaks the recent issue but I am fixing as they appear.
Never a transmission issue, serviced at 80K miles and I will do again in the next couple months. No major engine issues internal, replaced gaskets, cam sensor, O2 sensor, Oil pressure switch, coolant vent return line and coolant tank. Of course wear items, brakes, rotors, filters. |

Problems: HPFP issues until most recent replacement/update 25k ago battery replacement at 45k 2 bent rims (sport package) Otherwise the car has been great. Really fun to drive, good in the snow with dedicated tires and wheels, 25mpg, great seats. I change my own oil and filter every 10k. I bought the BMW "gold" warranty which goes until 100k. I'll be selling the car this spring. |
