Today's website oddity? My 'saved' configurations on the website have reverted back to the base, unconfigured, versions. Good job BMW.

I ordered mine on 10/12.......production was completed yesterday and according to BMW USA it is "at the prep center". Any idea when I can expect delivery if it reached the prep center today? The 1-800 number has even less infor than teh web site.

Someone said earlier that calling your local BMW center (dealer) and asking for an update is how you get the best info. Apparently they have access to data that isn't available to us via phone/web (but should be!).
Don't feel bad, mine still says 'scheduled for production, no production date has been set'...

The delaer called me right after I posted.....My car will be in on Tuesday but I am traveling for work so won't be able to get it until Friday teh 30th. I just can't believe it only took a little more than a week from the time I ordered until it was actually built.

Based on my experience, it takes a very very long time to get from VPC to the dealer, 2 weeks and still counting.

All depends on where you live.

Mine got on a train on Oct 4, and went to southern CA. Arrived there Oct 19. Trucked to Northern CA, arrived at the dealer TODAY.

Mine was supposedly released to carrier (per BMW NA) 10/9. Then CA said released to carrier last week and he'd have it 10/21. Then, it was "on the truck" and would arrive the 23 or 24th. Now, who knows . . .

7444387, ordered 09/08, and no production date yet. My CA keeps telling me I'll get my car "before the end of the year". That's pretty much the only assurance he could give me...

Who is giving you the exact status of the cars? My salesperson has not given me exact dates, but says it will be here soon, and my status on the web remains on order, while the telephone is telling me no confirmed production date as of yet.

Have your CA email you a copy of the status screen that he can see on his computer......it should answer all your questions and more.

Ard - Has your CA, or anyone else you've talked to, actually seen your car? If yours is truly at the dealer, it will give me hope.

Is it just me, or does this seem just a little contrary to the purpose of the 'track your BMW' portion of their website and 800 number?
I had written asking if BMW had any more info on my production number than could be gleaned from their website and toll free number - this is their repsonse:

Dear Mr. Carlson:

Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding the actual delivery date of your new X5 xDrive35d. Congratulations on your BMW purchase.

BMW does not offer an estimated timeline on vehicle production or date of delivery. There are many factors such as production line positioning, number of vehicles being made, and shipment dates that can determine the delivery period time.

I suggest contacting your client advisor for an estimated delivery date. They would be in the best position to give advice on the timeline of an order placed through their BMW center.

If you have any further questions, please respond to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time. Again, thank you for contacting BMW.

Sincerely,

Ashley Paras

Your CA can email you a copy of the build record for your order. it will show you the status, etc.....but no estimated build date. Once you get to status 112 (Oct 9), it goes quickly. I was status 150 on Monday, and today I'm 155.....build complete, awaiting shipping (to PCD).

The CA has the most updated info, not the 800 # nor the website.

Production is complete

Our X5d was completed the morning of 10/23 and has now moved to the VPC waiting to cross the street to the PDC.

Everything is set for the PDC delivery on 11/5.

For those monitoring this here are some dates of interest

Vehicle Ordered 8/30. I was the 4th X5d ordered from my local dealership. Their first round of allocation was only 2 vehicles.
Production number issued 9/28 with an expected production date in Nov.
On 10/16 CA passed a 10/22 production date and indicated it moved into production.
10/16. we are able to schedule the Performance Delivery and we took the earliest delivery date of 11/5.
10/22 the 800 # finally updated to vehicle in production with a 10/23 date.
10/23 the web site went from scheduled for production to at the VPC
Production completed 2nd shift on 10/22 or early on 10/23.

Words of Wisdom from our CA. When your vehicle hits a status that you can schedule the Performance Delivery asking for the earliest date moves you to the head of the line. We jumped the 3rd X5d ordered from the same dealership.

On Saturday we are taking our 2008 X5 and turning it into the dealership. It has served us well for the last two year.

Here are the specs of our new vehicle

Vermillion Red
Sand Beige Nevada Leather
Light Poplar Wood trim
3rd row seat
iPod and USB adapter
Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
Rear Climate Package
Technology Package
Running Boards

Anyone else taking a delivery of an X5 on the 5th?

All,

I'm out. I cancelled my order due to a variety of problems. I bought a 740il I will drive for now.
However - the vehicle I ordered will arrive at Herb Chambers BMW of Sudbury in late November. If you want a very well ordered X5 xDrive 35d, I will put you in touch with the sales manager.

Best of luck to all with your new X5's!

Rob
