Strange knocking sound in Steering column

anyone experienced strange knocking sound at the steering column....it doesn't sound mechanical , but it is quite annoying with the plastic housing sounding off during parking manouvers

Den, the steering column in any car is a wonderful transmitter. Sounds, thumps, and vibrations from virtually any part of the running gear can be felt in the steering column. This could be anything from a bad shock, tire cupping, wheel alignment, bearings in wheel or X drive, or even just a loose piece of plastic in the steering column shroud. If you are under warranty out there then take it in and have it checked out. You have some rough roads and potholed streets in the PI, so perhaps something has just loosed up a bit and that is what you are hearing. Good luck!

Now that you mention it, yeah I've heard a sound from mine. It isn't anything I'm worried about. I figured it was just plastic hitting plastic somewhere.

thanks Uncle J...for that good suggestion...unfortunately my X3 is out of warranty....so I guess I have to brace myself for some serious spending now....tsk tsk.....

we do have potholes in PI...but am quite conscious of them
