335i Squeaky Breaks....

I searched the forums and didnt find anything too recent and nobody seems to complain so i was curious... Who here has a 335i with squeaky breaks?

It started off only squeaking in reverse when backing into the garage/parkingspot/driveway... Recently ive noticed in the parking garage when i come on campus that the brakes squeak when slowing to a stop sign.... It seems to be a pet peeve of mine and i feel the car looks junky with that noise!! .

Is there anything i can do? Is it becuase of the way i drive/ the way the person before me drove? I keep forgetting to ask the dealership but i will on the next service... Just curious if anyone else has this problem...

07 335i Sport package.

Thanks guys.

Go to a wide open parking lot, get up to a relative high speed and do some hard stops that you wouldn't normally try in traffic. Also, the owner's manual suggests (when safe) putting the car in neutral while coasting and use the parking brake to stop the car to remove rust or other buildup. Probably also something that's better to do in an empty parking lot with lots of space. I can't say this will fix it, but I'd try it. I had slight squeaking and got the "could not reproduce" from the dealer. I've done the parking brake a few times recently and at full stop it squeals a bit as the car is coming to rest.

Surprised it says that in the owners manual, but ill give it a try. If by chance my rotars are warped is that covered under the warranty? I do pretty hard driving on the car atleast once a week with some decent high speed slow downs from 80+/- to 40+/- or so

Others have said that the squeal is caused by dirty brake sensors so cleaning them off is a quick but non-permanent fix. You should consult the manual and not me about the parking brake!

Gotcha... Ill take a look thanks for the responses...

If by chance the car is squeaking when i go to the dealership and i can re-produce it infront of them, they should do something atleast right? Or are they going to give me a run-a-round about how they cant do anything about it.

There's also the odd chance that your pads have worn down so much the wear indicators (little wires) have popped out. I"m not sure these are in the BMW pads, but it's a pretty standard design. The brakes squeak on purpose when you need new pads.

my rear do that intermittently, but they have just 7k left according to computer (fronts at 30k).
After 2 hours of hard driving goes away, or changes side %) nothing special.
Also happens while accelerating from a stop sometimes.

I'd say do 5-6 80 to 20 full brakings in a row(preferably right at the ABS point, but without triggering it), then come to a stop with mostly engine braking (don't touch brakes below 10mph) and let it cooldown for 10 minutes. Should go away - likely caused by material from brake pads on the rotor that stuck when you came to a full stop while pads where very hot (10 80->20 brakings in a row), should be scrubbed by braking.

rotors: it will develop circular "scars" with use and should not be smooth, but if you can catch a fingernail, I'd ask a dealer.

Hi,

I had same problem and they discovered it came from the emergency brake. A small adjustment and the sound was gone.

I had the same problem on my 2008 335xi. On the third dealer visit they said it was the rear brakes and they beveled the pads, cleaned the sensors, and applied some type of lubricant. It's been about 6 weeks and the squeaking almost non-existent.

nope, there are no audible wear indicators on bmw pads, just electric wear sensors, when you wear the pads down enough, the sensors wear through and break the circuit, triggering the brake light

+1...so did I. Hmmm...seems that it was not an isolated issue. I wonder how may 3 series have this problem.

Went into the dealership today for a routine checkup service, and they ended up replacing my rear brake pads, sound is gone .

Not sure if it was from wear on them or what(less then 30k miles on he car) but they were replaced no questions asked.

Skweeky breaks? 335i

Drive to an Empty parking lot or road. Gun it in reverse and slam on breaks... Repeat a few times.... Bingo!

I've had this dealt with over 4 times with the dealer. That included new rear brakes which got rid of the noise for maybe a month or so.

Now my lawyer is dealing with it.

Do you expect legal fees to be reimbursed?

I have the same problem of a squeal when I make turns in a parking garage. I just got new pads less than a couple thousand miles ago under my last warranty checkup. So I'm guessing now I'm on my own to fix it.

I just started noticing this as well. Seems to happen in reverse, when I pull into parking garage at low speeds and turn, as well as when I go about 20 in traffic on the freeway. When I accelerate it seems to make it squeak when going about 15-20.

I will try the parking brake trick and reverse hard braking to see if anything helps.

I know there is a service bulletin for it (I have it between 0-30 mph on my 09 and it isn't covered by an SB, so I'm assuming I'll have to hassle them to fix it.

SI B34 08 08 is one, and there is another that came after it, hopefully you fall under that and can get a free fix at the dealer.

My 2007 328xi squeaks when slowing down at slow speeds, like at a traffic light. It's frustrating but I only notice it when the windows are down. Next time I see a nice big empty parking lot I'll give the hard braking a try.

Sucks when I have such a beautiful car and it squeaks like some 1980 jalopy!
