"New" '06 X3 Sport Package... wanted to say hi!

Hey guys... I joined the ranks a couple weeks ago and bought an '06 X3. I have been a BMW guysever since I could afford my first one and have had at least one in my garage ever since! I wasn't really sure the different trim packages when I bought this one, just loved the color combo!
I think it's got every option available, including nav and an "M-sport performance package?" It's got the M logo on the steering wheel, the door sills and all the wheels. It's got 35k miles and still under warranty! We love everything about it!
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say hi... We live in Northern Illinois, so excited to see how it does in the snow!
Rick

Welcome, Rick!

OK, so you've got a pre-2007 with the sport package...that's the one that everybody says has a terrible ride -- too firm in non-sport and even worse in sport. Tell us how you like the ride.

My '08 with sport package rides just fine -- just like a BMW with a sport package should. Doesn't feel anywyhere close to a Buick. Yours?

Are you going to get a set of winter tires for the white stuff or do you have a beater for snow days?

Cograts on the new ride Rick! We are just up the road from you in Milwaukee, and we don't have any issues with driving in the snow. I got a set of winter wheels and snow tires our first winter here, and sold them the next spring as we did not need them. The OEM Scorpions handled the snow superbly. It looks like you may have them too as I can barely see the tread pattern.

Hey Larry,

I'm not really sure how to answer that as I have nothing to compare it to other than most of my other BMW's which most have had the sport package option. All's I can say is to me, as you say... it rides absolutely fine. Not terrible at all, not jarring, not too firm. But again, it just really feels like a BMW should! Anything less and it would be a Mercedes.
In fact, its the ride that sold me... so, there ya go!

I've had it for 3 weeks and so far, I've restocked the tool kit (someone felt like stealing all the tools), had the front windows tinted to match the rest of the car and installed the factory alarm. Next up, maybe some blackline taillights, a good de-badging, the factory sirius module (if I can find one!), maybe some speaker upgrades... and that's probably it for this year.

Rick

Great vehicle.

That looks my neighbors car that originally won me over to an X3.

Sound and Speaker upgrades is my middle name if you need info.

EE..
Thanks for the kind words! I already know you're the man, all things sound! Not terribly unhappy right now with factory system, I just know there's more to be had... I posted a reply to another thread, do you by chance, know anything about how this XM direct option would work in my system w/nav? If at all?

X3 terr... this probably won't come thru very well, my camera phone doesn't work very well, but here's what it look likes...

[IMG][/IMG]

If this doesn't work... it matches almost perfect! They did a "light" tint, I don't know much more than that... but really close to the factory tint, which is the lightest I think I've ever seen for factory!

There's always a retrofit option which will cost you an arm and a leg.
Only thing I wish I had from M sport package is M sport steering wheel.
(My love for M sport side skirts is gone now due to its incompatibility with the oem aluminum side running boards. )

Btw, OP, congrats on your new ride!

Not familiar with it, but not a set of schematics I can't figure out. Let me look it up. Do you have any paperwork on it you can send via PM?

I bailed on xm/sirius when my drive to work went from 2 1/2 hours to 15 minutes.

Thanks for the pic! It looks really close, wonder if that's 35%. Yes the factory privacy tint is not too "private"...lol

Yes on terracotta... I've always been fascinated with this color! Never been a fan of tan interior, tan carpet, tan dashboard, etc, but love this with everything else black! I'll do a mini photoshoot when I get everything done...

Hey Rick, nice X3! We just got our '06 X3 (CPO, 28k) on Thursday and absolutely love it!! I've gotta admit, I was somewhat nervous about the purchase after reading some of the posts here, but we did our research and are comfortable with the local dealer. Here's a picture of our's... Darren.

Hey Guys, Same here... '06 x3 CPO car 31K auto, Alpine White, purchased Monday. We are gonna tint the windows too. it looks like all the windows are a very light tint. I want to end up at about 20 percent. you think 30 percent on top of the factory tint would work?

Your tint looks nice. I say that's what the factory privacy glass should look like.
What % tint film did you use? And did you also tint front door windows?

I wish I could do that, but when I moved from AZ to NH, mu dark tint on my Lexus made me feel like I was driving in a tunnel all the time. Too dark for NH lack of sun!

Thanks. The windows were tinted when we got her. Overall they look to be about 25-30% but I'm not sure exactly what level tint was used in combination with the OEM privacy glass to get it to that level.

From inside, it seems about right.

Darren.
