Munich Marriot Prices
Been researching for my ED next Spring. Came across several posts stating that they got rooms at the Marriott as recently as 09 for about $70 a nite. I just went to the Marriott website and gave them info for 2 nites in early April with the AAA discount. The price came up at 161 Euros per nite! What gives? Is there something I dont know on how to get a better deal? Thanks for any help offered.

Hmmmm obviously you didn't read the threads carefully.
![]() That's winning bids through Priceline. People were bidding and getting wins in the $60-$75 range.

+3, for myself and the two rooms I reserved for my travelling companions.
![]() http://biddingfortravel.yuku.com/ is your friend for figuring out how much to bid if you're looking to use Priceline for additional hotels, although I couldn't get anywhere near some of the posted prices for Venice 5-star hotels (probably a combination of weekend or some event).

You can also use Google to compare rates and get better than average quotes. I must say $70 is pretty low. Not sure how great that particular Marriot is tho.

Stayed at that Marriott in August, I was very happy with it, and the service there. They were also renovating some of the floors I believe so you could be staying in a brand new room. I thought it was really convenient and easy to get to from the airport thanks to I wanna say DonnaBlackson I think the username is who had a post on here with basically photographic instructions on getting there from the airport.

I've stayed at both the Munich Marriott and the Renaissance a couple times each, and I prefer the Renaissance simply because it is closer to the Ubahn stop (Nordfriedhof) As for the prices, you can typically get rooms in either hotel for around $70 - $90 online (i've only done Priceline once, and I think I paid approx. $85) HOWEVER, the prices can go waay up in both Spring and Fall if you are anywhere near Oktoberfest (last two weeks of Sept.) as well as the last weeks of May (not sure why.) I've never been in the summer months, but I suspect the rates can get a little higher.
BTW, I tried to get a room at both hotels two years ago during the first two weeks of December---both totally sold out due to the Christmas festivals!

Stayed at the Marriott Renaissance in Munich in Septemeber of this year. Paid $99 Euro per night - Executive King Suite, dbl occ.. Booked direct through Marriott website. The AAA discount does not offer better rates than their online specials typically. The rates change weekly based on percent of bookings and peak times. Since you have time, would recommend you keep checking until you get better rates.
The other thing to keep in mind is there is usually a 20-30 euro difference per night on hotels if you book with breakfast. My rate included full breakfast. Lastly, most hotels will offer you significant savings if you prepay which may explain some of the differences in what others have paid. Also, we checked out the other Marriott while we were in town (they are a short walk from eachother) and it seemed to be more updated than the Renaissance. Since Zeke77 has stayed at both, perhaps he can weigh in on which is better.

Yep Engima that was me
I liked the Marriott too, it was so convenient to the subway, very short walk to and from subway, quiet rooms, nice.... would surely stay again my next visit to Munich. I paid about $ 71 per night on Priceline... PS Renissance is about 3 minutes walk to the Marriott so basically they are in the same spot almost... its a very short walk from both hotels to Nordfriedhof.

Both have separate, and similar, off-street parking facilities. As has been noted, the two properties are very close together. However, the Renaissance is literally right above the Nordfriedhof Ubahn station. I guess this sticks with me because my wife and I were once caught in a torrential downpour, and I was very happy we did not have to walk the (approx.) three blocks to/from the Marriott to get to the subway. I've never tried the room service or restaurants in either property, but the Marriott seemed to have a better looking dining facility. However, if you're in Munich and you are eating more than just the occasional breakfast in your hotel, you are missing out IMO. On a related topic, I feel the need to give a small shout-out to the Marriott in Freising. It is a GREAT place to stay on your last night if you are flying out of the Munich airport early the next day. The hotel itself is very simple, but Freising has a great "old town" just steps from the Marriott front door. It's at least 45 minutes train ride from the hotspots of Munich, so I don't recommend it as a base for your ED pickup. However, if you need to be near the airport, this is a MUCH better option than, say, the Kempinski, etc. And yes, they have a shuttle that will get you to the airport in about 10 minutes.

i looked at both and the pricing was fairly similar. The rennaissance suites were much bigger though and well worth the extra 20-30 euros.

Thanks for that post Donna!
I stayed at both as well, actually liked to Marriott more myself, the Renaissance room I had didn't have A/C just a fan in the room. Other than that yes it is a little closer to the subway stop, they have a nice garden area in the center of the hotel where you can sit out and have a drink/eat/smoke etc... Assuming you're not going to be spending much time in the room/hotel i'm sure either one would be fine. I would lean towards the Marriott myself though. |

I have stayed at both the Marriott and the Renaissance hotels, and I preferred the Marriott. But that was two years ago, and I do not know if the Renaissance has undergone a renovation since then.
There was a coffee shop/bakery next to the Renaissance hotel where one can get a very nice Continental breakfast at a very reasonable price. Both hotels had underground guest parking, which although not cheap, was secure and gave me peace of mind. Priceline is the way to go if you want to reserve these hotels! Just remember to bid on hotels in "Munich North".

I had no problem finding free street parking right in front of the hotels. If you're okay with that

I have done ED 3 years in a row and I have stayed at the Marriott the first two times and last June I stayed at the Renassaince. I will not stay at the Renassaince again, unfortunatelly when you do Priceline you don't have a choice. The Renassaince does not have air conditioning like the Marriott. The rooms are much better at the Marriott.
This is their solution to the lack of air conditioning.

Oh my gosh! it looks kind of nice on the outside..( Renissance) ... I picked the Marriott because of recommendations on here and was very happy with my choice. Its quiet in there too, even though it overlooks a highway depending on your view, you cant hear anything because the windows are very thick. You also get a free piece of cake in the morning too and free coffee in the lobby.. i came downstairs in my PJs and brought my coffee back upstairs.

Have stayed at both several times (not always ED) and prefer the Marriott over the Renaissance.
On this trip - big pretzel and apples at check-in - good coffee, tea and different piece of pastry in the morning. Although Mullers (sp?) bakery and a grocery store are just down the street. But I like it for the comfort, convenience to most of Munich, fairly quiet neighborhood with interesting restaurants, and the parking garage seems to be roomier - although on street parking is ok if you don't have your new baby. Staff is very good. Stayed at the Marriott in Heidelberg - they start vacuuming the rooms at 7 AM. Mentioned it and they apologized and said they would send someone to our room right away to vacuum it. ???? Also stayed at the Marriott in Zurich - got a parking ticket when I took the luggage inside during check-in. No valets there to help if needed. I was in their courtyard!! Anyway stay away from Zurich altogether!!! It did not appeal in any way to either of us. -Harry |

You don't get suites when you bid on Priceline.

I am marriott platinum and booked the Marriott on my points for one night. Reading here sounds like I made the right choice. Is there a concierage lounge at this Marriott like the ones in US where you can get breakfast and snacks? And how much is the charge for internet?
