If you're prewired I'd check to see if you've got a mic. You'll need a BMW ULF (generation 13 is the latest) you can get one on Ebay for around 5-600 dollars. You'll also need a pairing button which you can get from Bimmernav for around $30. If you don't have a mic it's around $50. You don't need the eject box. Here's a link to installation instuctions:

I have a complete unit for sale in the Classifieds section which includes the factory original pairing button and second generation mic. It's on an e39 but it's the same part needed for the X3.

Wouldn't a 2007 X3 be able to use a Bluetooth TCU, which is typically much less than the Bluetooth ULF? My 2005 uses the BT TCU, so I sold my BT ULF, which I had used in an E38 and E39 (and which I bought from Bimmernav).

And I thought all X3s were prewired for phone, at least in the US and Canada.

Yes the TCU can be had for less but doesn't have voice recognition enabled. I've heard of some models that weren't prewired.

If you are relatively proficient with computers and making a fairly simple cable, a TCU can have VR enabled using software called NavCoder.

See http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/713780 and http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/644000/ -- and many other posts in that forum for examples of successful VR enabling on TCUs.

My 05 X3, without premium package and BMW assist, was not pre-wired. You have to have either of the two options to get pre-wiring. I installed Parrot unit with steering wheel harness, so far love it.
