Ready to order 2010 35d. How about the price
Hi All,
Being new to the US, it is difficult for me to find out how much room to negotiate I've got here. Yesterday I received the following quote: 2010 X5 35d -Premium package - Technology package - Rear climate package - Running boards - Roof rails. Overall price including destination & handling and rbber floor mats would be USD 52,860. According to the salesguy this would be 1800 over invoice. Based on Edmunds.com it appears to be more like 2300 over invoice. What do you think? Thanks for the input! |

That doesn't sound like a good price to me. However, will your purchase qualify for the $4500 Eco Credit? If your order/purchase still applies (I believe it's good until the end of this month), then you got a horrible price.
Check out the other threads regarding the prices paid for the 35D. I think ppl are getting the 35D for less than invoice because the dealers are getting $4500 back from BMW! By the way, Edmunds.com is wrong in regards to the TMV for the 2010 X5's. I just ordered a 2010 3.0 and got about $300 over invoice. According to Edmunds, ppl in my area are paying around $1500 over invoice. Considering the current economy, I don't think anyone is paying that much over invoice for any car unless it's a "green" car. Last edited by z2g; 10-27-2009 at 12:54 PM. |

This price already takes into account the 4500 eco credit. According to BMWUSA.com this car would have MSRP of 60,025. So after deducting the 4500, the remaining would be 55,525. Any ideas how I can determine the actual invoice price for the dealer so that I can figure out how much I am paying over (or maybe under in the end) the invoice price? I've spoken to two dealers and both indicated that they did not have any diesels on stock so that would mean in my view that they are selling quite OK. What's your view on that?

The Ad fee (called MACO I think), is a regional advertising fee where the dealers in your region pool their resources and buy TV and newspaper ads. Both of these are real fees paid by the dealer to BMW NA for every vehicle they sell, so dealers consider them to be part of the invoice, and typically add them to any "$XX over invoice" calculation. |

I get a 'true dealer cost' of $50,440. Includes 825 delivery and 180 training. Add MACO for your area. This includes the 4500 eco credit to you.
Don't bother with discussing MSRP. There is a pdf of the invoice prices here somewhere.... 500-1000 over 'true cost' is your target deal. LOTS of posts on pricing.... A |

I paid $500 over dealer cost minus the $4500 rebate here in AZ. I had to call 5 different dealers to get it, so I suggest you keep shopping.

I am a member of Costco and their negotiated price with the dealer is $3000 off MSRP on X5s. You still are eligible to get the $4500 eco credit on top of that from BMW. My only issue was the closest dealer that was part of the Costco program is 600 miles away. So I ended up ordering with the local dealer for $800 above Costco price (in essence a $2200 off MSRP)...

If you're happy with the deal, that's all that matters. Congrats!

When speaking of "invoice" deals vs. discounts off of MSRP, it's useful to remember that most, if not all, prices for $xxx "over invoice" quoted by dealers have two additional invoice charges not included in most "wholesale" prices... MACO and a training fee, i.e., an "over invoice" price is typically higher than an "over wholesale" price.
The training fee is $180, and the MACO fee varies by area, typically being about $250-350. So in most cases, a $xxx "over invoice" price is equivalent to a $xxx + 500 over wholesale price. So if anyone is negotiating an "over invoice" deal, be sure to ask the dealer about the MACO and Training, and whether or not the dealer considers those as part of the invoice price he is quoting. |

that's about $1000 less than the Costco Auto program deal... which is wonderful. I checked with dealers in Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta (all dealers) and everyone had one thing to say "no one has any inventory, these diesels have to be made to order for now, so they are not hard pressed to give out any discounts". Many of us are waiting for a couple of months to get these delivered, supply-demand applies here as well - with the $4500 credit anything above that to me seems like a deal.

You negotiated a good deal. I got $3000 plus eco on a 60.9k MSRP, so you managed to get an additional 1% off the MSRP, in comparison. |

Indeed, I paid 700 more in profit than on the 2009 I had initially ordered. And my local dealer would not touch the 2010 deal (he wanted 2k off MSRP) So yes, it is a moving target and some luck of the draw... A |

I ordered mine on 10-19-09. It took a lot of work to find a dealer that would be reasonable, but I was able to find one that was willing to deal. Total MSRP for my car was $68,725, price to me with all incentives, markup, MACO, etc. was $59,520 or about $9200 off MSRP. If you are serious about buying, I'm not sure I would wait much longer, I believe the $4500 eco credit ends Monday the 2nd.
The other deals I was offered were Costco at $1500 over invoice ($8200 off MSRP) and USAA at $1000 over invoice ($8700 off MSRP). |

When I look on USAA Car Buying Service website, their MSRP are higher than what is on BMW's website, so assuming I am not reading something wrong, this artificially inflates the savings on USAA's website.

All of the pricing I found was plus MACO and training. My best deal was $500 over invoice + MACO + training. I don't think there is any way to not pay those fees as they are part of the dealers cost.
When I looked at the USAA website it didn't have information on the 2010 model only the 2009. I have not double checked to see if they have the 2010, but their pricing may be wrong. I entered my information onto their site and they had a couple of different dealers call me. All of them had the same contractual deal with USAA of $1000 over invoice (which was easy to find on kbb.com or nada.com) plus MACO and training. Depending on your region, the contractual amount may vary, but I wouldn't pay more than $1000 over. That is more than fair considering all the dealer has to do is fill out an order and deliver a car. |
