Replacement of left side headlight cap

I need to replace the left side low beam headlight covering cap on my 2006 E53 X5 4.4i located in the engine compartment. The ballast was changed about one year ago which required the removal of the front bumper. I noticed that the headlight covering cap is cracked and allowing moisture to enter the headlight assembly. I lose my left side low beam after driving through car washes. It eventually dries out and come back on after a few weeks. I ordered a replacement cap but it appears that the radiator coolant expansion tank needs to be removed to facilitate the covering cap exchange. Has anyone changed the left side headlight cover cap? Any trade secrets to help this exchange? Reference item #12 on the following link to place in your browser - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...34#63126927795

Thanks for any assistance.

if all it requires is the expansion tank hell take it off it should be on more than 2, 3 screws max then lay to the side.

The power steering reservoir and coolant expansion tank are mounted to a bracket that is secured by approx 3-4 bolts. You should be able to undo those 3-4 bolts...then move the entire bracket (w/Pwr Steering reservoir & expansion tank) both still attached to the bracket. You may need to have something to tie up or hold the bracket out of the way...but it should be about a 2 or 3 on a scale of 10 with 10 being difficult and 1 being easy.

Thank you gunvvw and Qsilver7. I was intimated by the location of the expansion tank and power steering reservoir and did not want disconnect any hoses, You both gave me the motivation to replace this headlight cover.
