E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

M version of the 1er

Do you guys think it might be called the 1M, like the Z4M, X5M, etc?

Sorry if this is a repost but i couldn't find it by searching.

A 1 series with 300 hp (the 135) is very fast, too. Since max speed is proportional to the cube root of the max power, 350 hp, a factor of 1.17, would only make about 5% difference. Aceleration and torque are more closely connected but you don't say how much extra torque you're giving us!

Thanks all. Just got back from Germany had a blast picking up the car, touring the BMW plant, visiting the BMW museum (as well as those of Mercedes and Porsche), and driving on the Autobahn. Fun! I highly recommend European delivery. BMW does a nice job of caring for their new customers and you can save a considerable amount (standard 7% on top of anything your dealer will offer).

BMW is making an M version like the X5 M. Not a true M car. So probably 120i M or 120tii or something. I think more likely a smaller turbo than the 3.0L twin.

It's really far away too, i think i read 2012.

Dinan Stage 2 is what we run in the race car.

There is an "M-Sport" available in the UK now. This is a trim package not a true M car.

It is sort of like a plus version of the sport pack sold in the US.

Items include M bodykit, M-sport suspension, sport seats, anthracite headliner, M logo doorsills, style 261M wheels.

M sport suspension is option code 704. Not sure if this is the same as the sport suspension sold in the US.

This package is available on most models, not just the 120i.

That package is available for 2010 on 135i. Same thing as a regular sport + alcantara headliner + double spoke wheels...

ARE your sure about this? I would love to be able to use this formula if it's true, but shouldn't a lot more be taken into account, like mass????

That is a correct approximation. The only effect mass has on Vmax is due to a possible slight variation in rolling resistance, but rolling resistance is small compared with aerodynamic drag at Vmax. The shape of the power curve and gearing will have an effect of what power is actually available at Vmax. To use the maximum power from the engine to reach maximum speed, requires the gearing to allow the engine to rev at it's peak power RPM at that speed.

Sounds like the M version is a reality, and might even be called M1. No worries, there are few BMW purists left to complain about the name.

"We're conscious that our existing customers are gravitating towards larger and more expensive models such as the X5/X6 M," said the M division source. "We're looking at ways to attract new customers to the brand, and an entry-level model is part of those plans."
I'm not really interested in a turbo six 1 series though, too heavy. I'd only buy it if it's a back to basics lightweight model.

an M 1 series would totally mess up the m3 sales.

it would be lighter, handle better, and faster.

They might make the m3 even more of a gt instead of a pure sports car, pushing it closer to the m6
