CPO and ext Maint almost expired (possible transmission issue)
My 07 750 is going to the dealership today for new rear brakes and new spark plugs.
My CPO expires in 4000 miles and I have been experiencing occasional rough shifts and hav noticed a few loud noises sometimes when I shift from park to drive an happen to have the door open. Last time it was in they said it needed a software update which of course wouldn't be covered under the warranty. I may just be over sensitive to these things because of the reputation of the transmission on these 7's My question is what should I ask to dealership to do or check to ensure that the transmission isn't on it's way out. Like maybe change the transmission fluid or something like that. Any help or input would be appreciated Thanks |

For instance I'm in the driveway in park, I hop in to pull it into the garage and leave the door open when it shifts from park to drive it will on occasion make a very loud metal clang when it shifts, if I then go back into park and do it again it doesn't repeat

I have 96k miles now, my driveway is a very slight incline not big enough for the car to rest on the gear.
Being that this is possibly the last trip to the dealer under CPO an maint plan I'm worried I might forget to have hen check something that could be fixed or replaced for free. Any random things that you would have them check on your car if you were in the same situation as myself Thanks |

Both my 7's did/do this. I think the root cause may be the torque converter. When things are working correctly, the tranny acts like its in neutral when shifting, so minimum clunk, and the car does not creep very much. Then sometimes, the tranny acts like your jamming it in gear without any clutch, so big clunk, and the car wants to creep forward. Not sure if I am explaining this very well, but this is the most annoying problem with the car. wish BMW would at least acknowledge this, and come up with a proper fix.

So when the torque converter is going bad this happens, or it will happen no matter what and the torque converter could be fine?

I've had this happen on every car i've ever owned when you shift out of park on an incline/decline to drive or reverse.

I think the problem is in the programming, but enough harsh shifts and the tranny will wear out and fail at some point. My 03 developed a leak, and BMW said I should replace it for $10,000. I had the fluid topped up and it was fine for a while, but traded in the car fairly soon after that.
