Warranty almost expire

Hello,

The warranty on my 328Ci will be due in October. The Stealer send me a letter, offering a "pre-expiration inspection" for $130. Do you think this inspection is worth it? Thanks.

Ed

What does this "inspection" include?

Is there a list of things that they check?

It includes puncturing a small hole in the power steering hose and radiator, so that after the warranty expires he would be S.O.L. and had to bring the car back in for work that's not covered by warranty anymore.

Unless that $130 guarantees a certain amount of miles or time extended from your warranty, I wouldn't do it.

Yeah, i only see one letter off. No big deal to me.

And oh by the way, i'd skip the inspection too. Did they offer you an extended warranty? It 'might' be worth it if they took the $130 off the price of the warranty, but i hightly doubt that'll happen.

Extended warranty and extended BMW Emergency Service are separately charged services. The letter mentioned these services, but did not offer any discounts. I think extended warranty is fairly expensive.

I wouldn't trust the dealer.

I'd say to the inspection.

Ed,

I'm contemplating the same thing. My ride will be three years old next year, and debating on whether I should purchase the extended warranty. I'm thinking, it may be expensive up front, but if something major were to happen, I would just pay the deductible and be on my merry way. And if something does not happen, then oh well. It's a good piece of mind. Better safe than sorry, especially on an expenive car.

D

PS I wouldn't get the pre-expiration inspection. All they'll do is check the hoses, belts, etc. You can do that in your own driveway.

Couldnt you bring the car in for a regular service before the warranty runs out. Or bring it in for something that has been nagging you....and then have them take a look at it.

Afterall they get paid by BMW for warranty work. So charging you $130 is like double dipping.

I would ask them specifics about the warranty. Meaning if your car needed new cv boots and/or joints, bearings, valves, yadda yadda yadda.

See what it would cover and what it would not. Might be common sense, but depending on how expensive it was, i might skip it.

I just had an oil change about a month ago. I suppose I shouldn't have to worry.

My warrantee expired in Feb 03 and no such offer was made to me, not that I would have done it. I checked into an extended warrantee, the quoted me $1900 for two more years and up to 60K miles. I opted to take my chances. If the car breaks down I'll just have to pay out of pocket. I did look into some independent BMW shops. I'll most likely start taking my car there.
