Z3 Seatbelt Lock-up

I have a 2000 Z3 and my seatbelts are constantly locking up while driving. It drives me nuts because it pins you against the seat and the only things you can do is to take the seatbelt off or rack your shoulder into the seat fast enough to reset the ratchet mechanism. Is there any way to prevent this from happening every time I go over a bump? It is really starting to annoy. Any input is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Ken

Some cars are worse than others, and some replacement retractors are worse than the original ones fitted.

The pendulum (sp?) in your retractor must be more sensitive than most, in my 99, it's the passenger side that gives the most grief. Been that way for the nine (9+) years I've had it.

You could try finding ones from a wrecked car, though I wouldn't recommend it, or buy new ones and hope they're less sensitive than the ones you have now.

Or get used to it

On the bright side, at least you know it works! And really, isn't safety the most important thing?
