My dad has a 320d and I really can't fault its performance over a petrol. Our 2.8 z3 is very similar in performance and does 20 British mpg less. BMW diesels in my experience with BMW diesels is great, other than the swirl flap problem which has now been sorted
At 80mph out 3 series still does 50mpg

I rented a 118d in Germany, and got 37 US MPG while driving at an average speed of 140 km/h (including city driving. That's around 90 MPH).
I would flip over a 123d, but in the US I'd still buy the 135.

320d...a dream???
I would love for my first BMW to be a diesel. I have been thinking of making my next car a BMW and require 4 doors. I hope that in 2011 BMW will bring that into reality. Looking forward to that day.

Currently driving a diesel 6,it has far more power that I need.A diesel 4 in a 3 series or 5 series just might interest me.Getting an extra 5 mpg is worth giving up the "excess" power of my currect 335d to me.

cars need to get lighter too, and a bit smaller.
