rear brake pad indicator

I had to repair a nail in my rear passenger tire. While the tire was off I looked at the brake indicator pad and couldn't believe how long it was. I couldn't find where the plug is to replace it and I followed it all the way to the back of the rear door.

I just checked online at Pelican Parts and noticed the length of the replacement indicator is 3.5' long. Just wondering if anybody has replaced theirs and if it is a PIA. If so, perhaps it is worth replacing the pads before the indicator is tripped?

I noticed exactly the same thing this past saturday when I did my rear brakes, since I wasn't replacing the sensor I didn't bother on checking further. I never wait until the sensors are tripped for two reasons; first is hard on the calipers and second I save a few bucks
Of course, I'm out of the free maint period.

Ive replaced both my rear brake sensor and the wheel speed sensor and they both are housed in the same little black box. The rear brake sensor is listed at 3.5' long because it has to snake around the caliper and strut housing. Follow the sensor until you see it go into a 1"x2"x1" box. It is just in front of the wheel well, maybe a foot in front of the wheel, it sits on top of the frame rail. It's a clam box, pry it open and the lid stays attached to the box. Once open, you'll see both the brake sensor and wheel speed sensor. Brake sensor is black and the wheel sensor is light blue. Not at all a PIA, 15 minutes, tops. Hope this helps.

Is this easily accessible with the car on jackstands, or does it have to be on a lift? I usually do my own brakes in my garage.

Codog2, For sure with Jack stands. I also do my brakes in my garage and just use a jack and jack stands. Just jack the RR up, take the RR tire off and follow the sensor wire for about a foot to that little black box. It's easy.
