Pinging Ticking Noise from Passenger Front Wheel Well

Has anyone heard a pinging noise from their passenger front right wheel well? I hear it only when the engine is warmed up. When I open the hood to listen for it, it does not seemed to be coming from the engine compartment. The pinging (metal clicking sound) can be heard only when you stand next to the car front right wheel as if some metal ring is loose and vibrating. I will a sound clip later if that is possible on this forum.

Did you just have engine replaced? I have this same sound and my engine was replaced in February. It could be the turbo waste gate needs to be adjusted.

Yes. I had the engine replaced. Is that what BMW did to your engine to get the metal pinging out to go away? If so, I can let the dealer know so they do not waste time figuring it out.

actually, I am hearing the noise after the engine was replaced. it typically happens on cold startups. I came up with the conclusion it could be from the turbo wastegate rattle that may not have been adjusted correctly when new turbo's were installed or the wastegate could be going. I am no mechanic by far but am the best Google mechanic you fill find around these parts... LOL

If the noise is coming from the area circled in red on the attached image, it is most likely the Dynamic Drive valve block. It is the only thing located in that area and there are several solenoids in it. I have had to replace one before. It is part one in this diagram.

Actually, it is the area squiggled in thin line read. I did get my active steering number replaced due to the infamous steering ticking knocking sound coming to a stop light/sign. At the same time, only the motor was replaced. The noise is only heard when the engine is warm or at normal operating temperature.

Here is a short video of the sound. It is the sharp ticking metal sound that you will hear from the wheel well.

It is the opposite for me. I hear the sound first thing on cold startup and disappears once engine is warm. Its not the sound of valves ticking.....

Today, I picked up my car, and the dealer replaced the high pressure fuel pump. I don't hear the noise anymore so far, so if you don't see an update, and the issue was the HPFP. They also noted that they put in a revised (updated) HPFP.
