Well, we all want the our 7 series to look good. There are no simple solutions. We all did it ourself. On my car 1. Low beam - D1S plug n play but difficult to change it. 2. Angel eye - piece of cake. Bill already showed us how to do it from the first thread. 3. Fog light - not easy to do but it's not hard. It's a whole HID kit. Both low beam and fog are 8000K color. |

Why can't we use the bulbs supplied on the F10 5 Series on our F01 7 Series' to achieve the same effect? Someone stated their dealership's service department stated that the headlamp designs are totally different? Is this true?

Hughes, thanks for posting your pic and the product. From what I can gather, the temperature of your bulbs is 4,350, which is slightling whiter than the stock bulbs you have that are around 4,200. So you won't see a dramatic improvement over your stocks. Let me put a color/temperature guide here to help.
Then you reduce the voltage and you have some yeller looking bulbs.

The higher on the color spectrum you get (the bluer), the less lumenous (less bright) due to the tinting of the bulb, and the hotter they will run.

On all of the packages I see foreign writing. Are these bulbs not available for sale in the US?

With the internet, you can buy anything on-line. Check your local laws to determine the legality of certain colors.

It just depends where you live. I find most of the shops that sell these upgrades are in Florida or California, with many exceptions of course. Internet is usually a good means of equalizing the price by keeping things competitive. Add on free shipping, no taxes and you're in pretty good shape. Shop.

Looks awesome bill. Are you planning to do the Low Beam to match it up ?

I have ordered the Low-beam bulb, however plan to remove the system from the fogs shortly. The temperature is a concern of mine. I will solve the code problem using a resistor as soon as I have time to match the impedance of the bulbs so the ECU cannot determine there is not a bulb present. My plan is to install LED's on the fogs and AE's with resistors.
If I figure it out, I may sell the damn things myself. I still remain shocked that all these bulb speciality shops haven't figured it out. Our cars have been out over two years now. It just goes to show you they're not as "bright" as they probably should be. There are a lot of shops selling them, but few understand the concept of basic electricity behind the units they sell. Amazing and scarey at the same time. Caveat emptor (buyer beware) for sure--it's your car to blow-up, folks. I am purchasing a nice pair of Low-beams (M-tech with GE burners--zero affiliation) due to the fact that they are hard to replace and don't care to be going in-and-out of there regularly. I would consider Philips but I have read where Philips does NOT manufacture anything other than OEM bulbs and what is out there is fake (I don't know this for fact, but try finding anything other than OEM on Philips site--nada. So why pay huge for something that "MAY" be fake). Your set-up is really nice and believe you have "arrived", heat issue aside. Bummer I can't see your set-up in person.

Has anyone installed or tried the GP Thunder 8500k (it looks more blue with light white hue)?

Me and Bill tried that at the very beginning. Unfortunately I don't see any blueish color at all.

They run VERY hot, and don't complete the second ring.

Bill/Mbworldz,
On another note, how high can I go? Using Philips 5000 now, how about if I go say 8000(if they carry it), does it get much hotter? What's the highest, safest for regular bulb swaps?

For the angel eyes, I have the GP Thunder 7500k which are great - they are bright and white - a real menacing look from far away....
I tried to replace one of them with a 55W this weekend but It didnt like it- it somehow turned off power to the light until I changed the bulbs.... strange.

MBworldz is running the hottest set-up with 8000k, and again, the heat is that which is reflected back into the bulb due to the coloring tint. The coolest lights you can run are the stocks which have no tint at all, allowing the light to escape. The more light reflected back into the bulb the hotter it will run. How hot is too hot? I don't know.
If I can get my hands on a wrecked 750 (it's headlight) I could answer that question as I could stress test the plastic by applying heat via colored bulbs and increasing the voltage until something gave. Until then, we must make our own decision regarding how much heat you want to apply in there (how blue you want to go, or if you go HID in the fogs). Taking temperatures of the stock bulbs in operation shows me they operate below 120F (on the lenses). So applying two and three times that temperature concerns me as that is not what the car was designed to tolerate. Nothing may happen at all. I think MBworldz is the best resource on this as he's testing, what I would consider, the limits. Having him keep us informed on how his operate will tell us a lot, at least until something more scientific can be done.
