More bad news; I sent my diagram to China and while they were able to use all the components I requested, they not only coded but burned out two of the resistors. I can keep going back and forth, but I can't see the point anymore. The Chinese keep using crappy parts and I could never put my name on the junk they're turning out for resale. For me to make this in the US, it would be obscene in price. I'm going to find that guy I saw driving around in his seven that had great AE's. Whatever he's got, I want--and I'm done with it.

For almost two years ownership, I haven't had a single problem.

Hey...

Make sure you share what the 'other' guy is using... I'm busting for better AE's too.

Cheers

I checked with MTech..... and they don't make AE LED lights for F01 models... nor my X5..... only older 7 series....

You can count on it. Far too many of us want to make an improvement.

Also, I saw this 7 before the launch of the 5 so am positive he's figured it out.

The resistors running hot are fine, they won't damage anything inside the housing, they don't run hot enough to do that.

Are there any lower output HID bulbs, or even low output ballasts. I have my fogs hooked--up using HID's (ballasts and all). But when I hooked them up to the angels eyes they were way to bright. So, if anything has come out lately let me know and I'll get it for a demo.

Has anyone tried these yet? I'm thinking about getting them and trying them out.

Let me know if someone has tried them or if you think there will be issues with them.

Falcon, I posted Mtech will be releasing v3 LED in 4th quarter 2011, as per Mtech directly. Item will be for F01.
Mtech has the best (OEM aftermarket bulb) solution, look at current Mtech V3 product images for other BMWs no Kludge, pure engineering excellence.

mikeeger, I have installed PIAA 4150K, amazon.com, link for your reference; http://www.amazon.com/PIAA-18235-Xtr.../dp/B002IBRI9K
The AE are very, very white but not LED white when day light running lamps are on.
When headlights turn on, the AE dims to yellow/goldish and not nearly as bright as DLR mode.

I've got the 4150's as well. Anyone know if the 4400's are much brighter? Probably not going to bother switching, just curious.

..both are 70 watt, cannot be any difference in brightness only difference is color temperature, your results may vari.. nothing in H8 filiment bulb will match or approach LED on new 5er. Pending Mtech V3 LED is the only possible, easy install, less costly retrofit vs. retrofit if at a possible of refreshed headlamp array on LCI.

Just saw in another post, the Mtec looks amazing! Why won't it fit an F02? Just ordered a set of Mtec H8 Super White, hopefully these are better than the GP Thunders I am currently using.

I just got the super white... I can tell you they are a lot dimmer than the stock OEM AE lights.... in fact in bright sun, it is difficult to see if you even have them on...

Very disappointing to hear about the MTEC.

I'll take comparison photos of the Mtec, GP Thunders, and the PIAA 4150k.

GP Thunders code once your headlights come on... I wouldn't waste your money...

I installed the GP Thunders almost a year ago and they are working well with no codes. I switched from the PIAA to the GP Thunders.

Really?!?! Mine look great during the day but once the headlights come on they code and shut off. I took them out about a month ago. Which one's do you have? I think I have the 8500k bulbs.

I'm using the GP Thunder 7500k. I think I have been using these for about a year now. I forget exactly when I bought them. I was using the PIAA prior to these but they weren't bright enough. I bought the Mtec, which you can see in the picture, but I didn't get a chance to test it out yet.

OK I found these on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

They are being sold by a BMW dealership here on the eastcoast and they say they will work for our cars (F01/F02).

I am emailing them now to see if they have tested them on our cars yet or if they are just assuming they will work because they work on the older 7's.

I will report back once I get them and try them out.

I don't see F01/F02 listed. Even E65/E66 isn't listed.

Yes you are right but I emailed them and they said it would work on our F01's. I have sent them a few more questions to answer before I pull the trigger.

I will let you know when I hear back. If all goes well I should have them by Friday.

If it fits the 2007+ X5... it will fit our F01.... I have both cars and the lights are interchangeable.
