Just in case I get the error code from the GP thunder, how do I clear the code? By shutting down the car and restart it ? Or needs to be done from dealer ?

Took me 30 minutes, prolonged time mostly due to fear/terror
of messing something up and poor lighting in my parking garage. Finished product look great! Used GP thunder 7500K's. For those that had problems/warning lights/shutdowns,etc, can you tell me how long it usually took for that to happen? Was it immediate or did lights need to be on for a certain time.I want to thank BMW for making this process relatively easy. Most of all, I want to thank this forum for making this new car experience so unique and enjoyable |

I am thinking about getting these: LED H8. It claims that it is for F01 F02, I sent an email to the buyer to confirm, but they haven't responded. I just hope they are not as blue in real life as they show in the picture.

Hold off on your LED purchase. Mine should be here soon and I can review them for you and perhaps save you some money or give you some small bit of assurance.
While driving my Ferrari this afternoon, I saw an F02 with very bright bluish halo lights. They were NOT stocks, no doubt. They looked fantastic. I couldn't swing around to catch up with the driver to find out what he had, but they looked incredible. I'll keep my eyes peeled for him.

I ordered a pair of LED from china but still not arrived. Its been more than 10 days already. Has anyone installed the HID Kit on their Angel eye instead of just LED bulb ?
I did try it during the weekend but it flickered couple of times then shut off. Looks like it doesn't have enough power for the HID. But when it was on, the bright 8000k blueish white color just amazing. I don't think any bright LED on the market can beat that HID color. I should have taken the pic to show you guys. |

BAD NEWS!!!!!!!!
I just picked the LED's up from the post office this morning and installed them ten minutes ago. They CODE!!!!!!!! A N D, they are so dim that they don't even illuminate the second halo. I bought two pairs and will try to find an alternative use for them on other cars, but D O N O T suggest you purchase any. Photos to follow as soon as I find my darn card reader...grr. Also, retested my Tropic Thunders and they coded too. Pics to come as well. Sorry I don't have better news fellas.

Ahhhhh damn it. I think the one I am going to receive will be piece of crap too.
Yesterday I went to one of the local stop http://www.swrmotorsports.com/ and talked to one of them over there, he said those china LED quality most of them are bad. Don't just rely on how many LEDs on the bulb. He has seen something with 13 LEDS is twice as bright as the 68 leds. So it really depends on the manufacture and how good is the quality. But too bad he doesn't have any at the shop to show me. Which one did you order? Is it this ? http://www.carpartslights.com/2x-18-...ght-p-112.html Quote:

That looks like them. I have many pictures to post.
Not happy since I ordered four, but then I'll find something to stick them in.

From your previous post regarding the split or V LED bulb. Here's the rub; LED's just don't put out enough lumens in all directions to make the angel eyes bright. You see, if the bulb or LED is in anyway diminished in luminosity, the outer ring suffers first, then the inner. The brighter the outer ring, the more light that is being thrown or produced. It is the first indicator of "lacking lumens" if I may call it that. If the outer ring is bright, the inner ring will be really bright. The positioning of the bulb (or LED) is closest to the inner ring, so it all stands to reason then. However, if you create too much heat in there by stepping up the voltage/wattage, you risk melting the plastics that surround the bulb. It is a fine line to walk between COLOR, HEAT and LUMENS (oh, let's not forget the dreaded "C O D E T H R O W E R". THE GOAL: You want a slight blue tint, not too much heat, and enough LUMENS to reach the outer ring and effective enough to light the entire ring. I am skeptical you can get TWO LED's to do it effectively. NOT ENOUGH LUMENS BELOW...(this guy has gotta be pissed after spending $329 to get these. Note the "broken halo" on the right. Caveat Emptor, folks.

No. I have the ones you ordered, or so they appear to be. If I can find the damn card reader I'd show you. My maid must have put it somewhere like the toy room or something.

Do you think its a good idea to put HID Kit for the Angel eye ?

Adding a balast would obviously be necessary. In doing so, I wonder if it would throw a code. I don't know.
Secondly, heat. Will it generate more heat in the area than it was designed to tolerate? Again, I don't know. If we can find someone that has a specific kit on a 3 or 5 using H8 bulbs I am confident it would probably work. However, will it code? I don't mind tossing a few dollars here and there to find a solution, but I'm into four sets of bulbs. And to be honest, the PIAA's are the best so far, that don't code. Ideally, I believe a temperature hue of 6,000 kelvin would produce the brightest light, with the slightest blue hue while not generating too much heat. Finding the right bulb to do this is the challenge. I have experimented with LED's, PIAA's, GP Thunders (coded-not the best color either), and Nokias. The perfect bulb elludes me.

If you are a member of another board or are aware of a place where we can source some intelligence, please share. Or email it to me and I'll investigate it. I kick myself now for not catching that guy I saw with those b-ass halos on his 7er. If he has them, then they are out there and we can figure it out.
Post what you can find and let's get to the bottom of these damn lights.

Absolutely. I will definitely do that.
I already did the 8000k HID Kit for the fog, it looks super bright. Tomorrow I will see a friend, lets see if he can install a HID Kit for the Angel Eye, I will take some pics as well. But do you know if that will cause problem with the 740i computer? For some older 7 series, they still use the actual fuse in the box. But I know mine doesn't, its all controlled by the computer. I just have little concern about if something goes wrong, will that ****up the computer hahahahahaha. Quote:

1. To what 8000k HID Kit are you referring? Please link or post it--love to see it, and pics if you have them. 2. I doubt it can't cause a computer problem but it may throw a code on you. For some reason the lighting systems on the F01 and F02 are "VERY" sensitive to any type of change other than stock Sylvanias. I'm not sure why but plan to ask the dealer at some point. But chances are we are light years ahead of them on bulb research and experimenting.

Yes the same HID Kit with the ballasts 8000k bulb Kelvin on my fog. He will try to put that on my Angel Eye also and see if that works., Probably need to draw some power from the battery.
If it throws an error code that is fine. Just little worry if it will burn/screw up the whole computer thing. I believe bmw will not covered that under warranty lol. |
