BMW Nav DVD's

my mom does a good amount of traveling in her bmw because of work, most of the time visting places shes never been too (within the state) so she is very dependent on her nav system which she loves. more times then not, she goes to places that arn't located on the 2006 nav disc. so i thought i would be nice to get her the 2009.1 updated nav disc for christmas. a few clicks and a jaw dropping $199.99!. Has anyone e9X's owners out there ever attempted to burn or duplicate a nav cd. i googled it and some posts came up but they didn't include much direction.

This is frequently done. Tons of posts on the topic at e90post.

Nightmare,

No offense because you seem cash impaired (as most 16yr olds are) but don't you think that your Mom would appreciate a gift that was NOT stolen more .... just saying .... maybe you are thinking too big ... nice idea and all but maybe it is too much for you ....

haah KHarney... lack of money wasn't really the issue it was just general princpel that a "CD with .iso files on it, IMO isn't worth $200" i understand bmw has to make money in the aftermarket life somehow but garmin has very similar map updates that are $19.99. and sure the "BMW label" boosts the price, but considering most owner payed 35-40k in the first place a free CD wouldn't be such a bad thing.

UPDATE(anyways): i did find tons of post on e90post.com and they all were helpful but they didn't give much direction if you weren't 100% sure of what your doing. but i did fiquire it out and tested it on my moms e90 and it worked, i still have to fiquire out how to activate the red light sensor and the camera's... but if anyone needs help downloading the 2009.1 disc im more then happy to help!!... and btw when my mom walked in from work i just told her i saved her $200 dollars today and i poped it in her car and it worked. (lol a burnt cd that says bmw nav on it wouldn't be such a great christmas present)

Mind posting where you got the torrent and what type of burnable DVD you used? I downloaded a file called BMWNAV2009.1_NA_CAMS.iso, but haven't gotten around to getting a blank DVD. I read somewhere to use a single-layer DVD+R, can you confirm this?

everything confirmed

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4526...rica_with_cams

^ thats the encripted file (same one you have)

then your going to need a program to actually "uncode the file". go to bittorrent.com free download and then your going to have to just simply open the file in bittorent (so open BMWNAV2009.1_NA_CAMS.iso in bittorent) and it actually is a long download about 4hours give or take.

Remember where you saved ur file that u just uncoded BTW. then download
"Active@ ISO Burner" just google it an its a free download. click the "..." button when you open active iso and then it will open a screen. select the uncoded BMWNAV2009..... file. and mak sure the burn speed is low and possible to prevent burn errors. should take 20mins to burn and there you go!

its very easy lol i know it might look hard i was a little overwhelmed at first, but its cake.
but Yes use a DVD+R. i have heard problems with -R's.. i suggust useing the file i linked above because the person who made that one took out all funerals homes ... so it would fit onto 1 dvd. otherwise you have you a dual layer disc, and people say its very noisy and i have actually tried the dual layer discs for fun, just to compare and yes it is vry noisy so stick with DVD+R=)

Tried it seems to work but...

Really slow...after waiting the 5 minutes to restart the system, took about 30 seconds to clear the BMW screen then took about 1 minute to get into the nav screen. Adding city and street info were even slower, the DVD drive is really working...

Update as of afternoon, seems a little faster now, but still slower than with 2007.1 orig disk

what kind of disc, did you use. i have talked to many people and they said the discs really have a lot to do with the loading times

Don't quote me on this but im almost postive that bmw's nav cd's are copyrightd, yes you can burn a copyright dvd. if you have the programs to erase all the copyright information encrpyted in the disc, sure you can do it that way also

EDIT: this link^ has all the funeral homes in the usa taken out of the points of interest, for some reason (don't ask) it makes the loading time faster and its small enough to allow to burn onto a sing layer disc. This is the one i used and load times are not noticeable

Burned it at 4x...It's gotten a lot faster over the last 2 days...It's like it's caching maps faster...

Will not work. The new iDrive is very different from the previous version. The hardware is completely different.

I bought my car used with 15K miles and came with a burned copy for the Nav. It makes me wonder what happened to the original???

I promise I am not reporting anyone to the Computer Cops, but it is, errr....., ummm....., inappropriate to discuss illegal means of duplicating copyrighted material on this forum. That being said, I have found that my Nav disc is badly behind the times. Car was bought in Feb 2008 (2008 model), built in November 2007. I live in an area (Hilton Head/Bluffton SC) with much rampant new construction and development, and many of the newly constructed roads are absent. No guarantee that a $200 update will fix that.
