Battery Maintenance

Hey Guys,

I am new to BMW. I just purchased a 2010 750LI M Sport that has all the option on it with the exception of Rear Entertainment. I love this machine and is my pride and joy.
I have read here on the forms about some concern with the battery. I travel quite a bit, air travel, so my car sits in the garage for 3-4 days at a time. Should I be concerned of the the battery getting low. If so, what is the best battery trickle charger on the market for my concerns. I have looked at the BMW OEM chargers and the green Battery Tenders. Has anyone had any experience with either if so I would like to hear your recommendations and suggestions.

I highly recommend that you get a battery tender, I got a good deal on this oem BMW tender but the oem bmw tenders are just rebagded tenders so not worth spending extra money just because it has a BMW logo.

I had to keep my 2010 750i on the BMW battery tender ALL the time. Well...not everyday, but if the car sat in the garage for 2-3 days w/o driving...the low battery warning messages came on. I know...it is crazy with a new(er) car, especially a $100,000+ BMW to have to do this. My last 3 X5s were the same, as well as with our 2010 M6. My 2012 ActiveHybrid 7 Series did not require this much at all....the battery seemed much stronger. If it makes you feel any better.....I must battery tend my brand new Rolls Royce. It is for sure better than most BMWs, in regards to the battery, but every Sat or Sun I hook the car to my BMW battery tender. It usually take 24 hours to fully charge the batter to "green". Good Luck!

Battery tenders also add significantly to the life of a battery. These batteries are expensive and a hassle to replace.

I hard wire them into the charging lug under the hood and route the lead to the grill.

I use the BMW tender, because I got a coupon for a percentage off from the dealer. I put it on when I will be gone for a week or more. Otherwise, I drive my car often every day, or with no more than, say, three days without driving it.

Using the tender is a small price to pay for keeping the battery in shape. My car is a bit over 5 years old, and I have had no signs of a weak battery.

Too, it helps a lot that I keep it in the garage.

Thanks for all the information. I would like to see how one said he hard wired the connectors to the battery and then routed it towards the grill, I like that Idea.

sorry i dont have any pictures. it really isn't complicated, just connect to the under hood positive post and then use a convenient grounding location such as the strut mounting bolt.

i use a standard battery tender extension lead routed up the passenger side of engine compartment and across in front of the radiator, out to the grill slats.
