Lifter Problems on Exhaust Valves

I have an '06 X3 and the dealer is worried that a recently discovered noise may be due to faulty valve lifters. Does anyone know of such a thing? If so what's it all about and how is it fixed?

I had the ticking lifters on my '07. They did the oil purge thing (I don't know the bulletin #) and when it didn't work, they replaced the entire head.

I am not aware of ticking engine complaints on those X3s not equipped with the N52 engine. Here is a link to information regarding ticking noise from the engine, but it only applies to the N52 - 2007 and newer: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=13504&page=44.

My 07 X3 used to make quite a racket (). The local BMW shop tried the engine revving 'purge' thing many times but the noise always came back. They finally replaced the head and the noise has not come back.
