Mixing tires on X3

I just had to replace one of the 19,000 mile Pirelli Scorpions on my X3 2007 due to a puncture.
Dealer did not have one and these things seem to be difficult to get. So I've gone with something of "similar" tread.

I had a Land Rover before which due to the AWD reqired same tread everywhere.

I admit that I have usually in the past made sure that I had the same tires/tread on the same axle.

Is this going to screw up the xDrive or is that just a BMW ploy.
Thanks KevBMX

Hmm, it's not suggested that you mix tyres since the xDrive/ABS sensors tend to be sensitive and can pick up different rotation speeds. However since you already bought the tyre, its hard to suggest you just throw it away. Just continue driving until something comes up.

3 tires @ 66% + 1 tire @ 100% = no worries, yet

I had a somewhat similar situation, but not with a different tire model...

During the drive to the dealer for my first scheduled service, I ran over debris in the road that ripped a hole in the plastic skid plate and nicked the sidewall of the passenger front tire. $263 later, I had a new Pirelli Scorpion in that corner, along with damage to the wheel from the mount. So much for a free visit.

I was on edge about purchasing 4 new tires, but the SA did not hesitate to install only one. I had about 16,000 miles on the vehicle at this point. I have since driven 33,000+ miles on these tires in the same positions on the vehicle without a single issue, if that helps.

Not all tires are the same diameter...even if they are the same size. I know that sounds funny but it's true. One manufacturers 225/60r16 may be taller and wider than the next. I've been selling tires for twenty years in dealerships so I can atest to it.
