Differences between a 2004 4.4i vs 2005 4.4i

I will be buying a 4.4i X5 in the very near future (4th Bimmer, but 1st X5). I'm wondering if there are any significant changes or improvements from a 2004 model to a 2005.

From what I've seen so far, I see no cosmetic differences between the two, but I'm wondering about any mechanical or performance improvements from one year to the next. Consumer reports rates the 2005 much better than the 2004 in overall reliability and they don't like the V8's at all. They recommend to avoid the V8 all together

I'm open to all opinions and suggestions

Congratulation on getting an X5. It's truly an excellent vehicle. I had a 2006 X5 4.4i. Do they say why you should avoid the V8? I know it's thirsty but I had zero problems with mine. There are a lot of reliability issues with the X5, it seems to be a hit or miss thing with them. The way it goes is that BMW worked out the kinks out of the E53 platform over time so a 2005 would in theory by more reliable than a 2004 but that's only theory.

Per se, I do not know of any significant differences between the 2005 and the 2004 versions of the X5.
