What type of automatic transmission fluid is needed for my sons 2002 325i ? How do I check the transmission fluid? Where do I add the transmission fluid?
Thanks

Depends on the transmission type - ZF or GM (can be either or for this year and model). Most likely GM though. There is a sticker on the transmission pan with the part number of the fluid(can be covered with grime and hard to see) GM fluid will be 83220024359 which is Texaco ETL 8072B. ZF fluid is part # 83229407807 which is ESSO ATF LT 71141 fluid.

You would add fluid through the fill plug with the car running and fluid warmed up to the temperature between 85 and 120 F. Here is the picture of the fill plug # 7 Torx 45 in case of the GM transmission:

Hope this helps

I think a transmission line has a leak but no more fluid leaking due to no more in it? He pulled off the highway and had the car towed to my house.
