ignition switch - battery drain

I have a major battery drain issue, iam pretty sure its not the fsu as i dont have any heater problems at all!, however i have noticed since the battery drain ha started the electric windows still work even after 15 minutes since the key has been removed from the ignition.

So i'am thinking could i have a faulty igniition switch (although nothing else i.e. the radio comes on, just the windows) or could the GM unit be faulty, i.e. not shutting the car down and in so doing the windows still work. I also have the emission warning light randomly coming on and off, i'am told this could be ignition switch related is this correct?

advise would be greatly appreciated, 523i, 2000 reg, 120k miles, no other faults to report.

many thanks
